Earlier today, around 7am ( WAT), Facebook, Instagram and were inaccessible to users in a good number of countries around the world.
The social media platforms were initially believed to have been hacked by Lizard Squad who claimed responsibility for the outage.
Facebook has however dispelled Lizard Squad’s claim, saying that it was as a result of system settings that went wrong.
According to the company, the outage “was not the result of a third party attack but instead occurred after we introduced a change that affected our configuration systems. We moved quickly to fix the problem, and both services are back to 100 percent for everyone”.
Facebook and Instagram are already back up, but for the 40 minutes when both services were down, humanity discovered there was more to like in the real world.
