Microsoft will support the Demo Africa for the fourth time this year through 4Africa initiative, Microsoft’s Africa-focused economic development venture.
Lagos, Nigeria is hosting the Demo Africa event – a showcase for new technology-enabled ideas across Africa – for the second time running and the support from Microsoft is a show of confidence in Africa’s growing technology scene, according to a media release to TechCabal.
“By supporting the growth of startups with disruptive innovations that solve major challenges in Africa today, we are laying the foundation for the creation of globally competitiveness businesses,” Amrote Abdella, Director of Startup Engagement and Partnerships, 4Africa Initiative at Microsoft said.
The DEMO Africa event will hold between 21st and 25th, September 2015 at the Eko Hotel & Suites. It is expected to attract over 500 guests including investors, IT buyers, IT consumers and media.
Thirty startups across various categories, from 10 African countries will pitch at the 2015 event. The startups are currently undergoing the event’s mentorship programme that will run till September 22. The purpose of the mentorship programme is to help startups buff up their picthing skills to get a better chance at securing investors’ interest.
At the 2015 event, organizers say they are introducing knowledge streams to discuss Business Modelling, Scaling Businesses, Creating an Unfair Advantage, and Raising Capital. Panelists will include MEST Founder, Jorn Lyseggen; ABAN President, Tomi Davies; Jason Njoku of iROKOtv among others.
