I attended Blackberry’s virtual event yesterday (well, virtually), and asides from the usual PR yada yada about taking security seriously, they announced a new “world’s most secure” smartphone, the DTEK50 (what we previously knew as the Hamburg). Wait. That was wrong. Rather than worry about hardware, they took Alcatel’s Idol 4, slapped on a new back cover and tweaked the Android (6.0 Marshmallow) base. Voila! New phone. Their bet is that the $299 price tag will do much better than the $700 tragedy they released last year. I do not know that lower prices are a magic ride to more sales sha, but I wish them goodluck.
