    Here are the news making the rounds on the African tech space:

    Nigeria’s Hotels.ng has raised $1.2 million series A

    In what will likely be one of the most-talked-about African startup funding events of 2015, Hotels.ng has secured $1.2 million from international investors Omidyar Network and EchoVC.

    Hotels.ng could now be worth up to $4 million

    Based on some decent back-of-the-envelope math, Hotels.ng is now worth at least $3.75 million.

    GTB partners Etisalat on GTeasysavers

    GTB is allowing Etisalat subscribers use the USSD code, *737*0# to open bank accounts. The account is legit for deposit, withdrawal, transfers and airtime purchase.

    South African MTN e-billing portal is on hold

    South African telecom, MTN, has temporarily shuttered its e-billing portal after a security breach that is making customers’ payment information vulnerable.

    Locomute will begin its car-hiring service next month

    Locomute, a car-sharing company based in South Africa will begin operations, June 1, 2015. It will list 26 vehicles at its launching.

    Microsoft enables low-cost internet access in Nanyuki, Kenya
    Microsoft has rolled out a project to allow people leaving within Nanyuki, a market town in Kenya’s Laikipia county, access low-cost wireless internet service.

    The city of Joburg is currently training 1000 young techies

    The city of Johannesburg is currently training 1000 young IT enthusiasts in the City of Johannesburg Educate Digital Interns programme (COJEDI).
