    NEWSROUND (1)

Mobile data is winning in Kenya – according to the Kenya Communication Authority (CA), from its recent quarterly sector statistics report, Internet data increased by 14.3 percent between Q4 2014 and Q1 2015 in Kenya. But more significant is that mobile data is responsible for over 98 percent of the total internet data in Kenya. In Nigeria, the trend is similar, where 95% of Nigerians access the internet via mobile.

Here are the stories that made the headlines across Africa today:

Western Cape entrepreneurs can win up to USD150,000 at the city-funded awards

At the Western Cape Premier’s Entrepreneurship Recognition Awards, entrepreneurs can win some cool cash, but I like to think it’s for the acclaim. You know, an extra plaque in the awards room, instagram pictures of them and extra mentions on Twitter. Anyways, the organizers have begun  taking entries for the third edition of the event.

Facebook is kinda launching its own livestream service

Yup. It took them all of four months to join the party and they are not even really joining still. The company launched a livestreaming service today, but it’s only for celebrities. All we – lowly fellas without diamond teeth – can do is watch. Just watch celebrities stream stuff.

    Apparently, South Africans love coffee

Coffee delivery startup, Cortadito Club won the third Lean Startup Machine held in Johannesburg, South Africa.

And in Accra, there is money to made under the shiny steeple

Asoriba, a web and mobile application that facilitates church administration, has emerged winner of the Seedstars Accra pitch.
