Local carrier, MTN Nigeria, has partnered with Google, Jumia and Chinese OEM, Infinix, to launch Google’s Android One in Africa.

The Infinix Hot 2, manufactured by the Chinese OEM, Infinix, is the first phone in Google’s Android One line in Africa.

The phone was announced earlier in the week in Nigeria and will be launched in five other African countries – Egypt, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya and Morocco. At the launch event in Lagos, Google announced a special data package for Android One devices, powered by MTN, that will give 1GB data for N500 ($2) in Nigeria.

The Android One program is the line of ultra low-budget smartphones managed by Google for developing countries. The design, development and support of the devices are managed by Google and the phones run the stock Android operating system.

At the launch event in Lagos, there were also loads to loads to eat and drink and Korede Bello of the Mavins was also on hand to thrill guests.
