I remember when I was to write my common entrance exams, my lesson teacher would force me to memorize the names of all the states in Nigeria and their capital cities. Everyday, we battled it out. I had to do a lot of ‘pick pin‘ because I found it difficult to memorize those names. Eventually I did, and passed the exam. But the problem was, I couldn’t locate any of those states on the map if I was asked to. Also, for some time, I confused Adamawa with Anambra and I used to think Sokoto was a Yoruba state.
Now, there’s an app that could have saved me the trouble and the embarrassment I used to face. The app, Shapeymix, is a 2D/3D jigsaw puzzle app. It lets you match Nigerian states to their correct borders by dragging and dropping them. You can also build a wind turbine and a groundnut pyramid. It brings back memories of the map games I used to enjoy on Microsoft Encarta 2009.
I think the fundamental idea behind Shapeymix is a good one. A lot of Nigerians really don’t know where some states are located in the country, even though they know the names of those states. Shapeymix is a fun way to learn more about Nigeria. It’s an app that should be promoted among primary school students and teachers.
The game is not time-limited so you have ample time to complete the puzzles. But I think it would be more interesting and more challenging if there was a time limit. It would also be more interesting if there was a limit on the amount of errors a player could make while trying to complete the puzzles. Just like Candy Crush.
Shapeymix was designed by the Amaka Ikem of Naijabranch.
