Concept store, Stranger Lagos recently received a grant from the British Council to be the first maker library in Lagos, and by extension, Nigeria. This will put Nigeria on the list of libraries in The Maker Library Network.

A maker library is what happens when makespace meets gallery meets library; basically a hub for makers. The Maker Library Network is an international platform that connects designers and makers and it is a British Council project.

Originally developed to connect designers and makers in the UK and South Africa, the Network is expanding globally with libraries in cities like Berlin, Istanbul and Edinburgh, and now, Lagos. There are about 20 maker libraries in the world.

Obviously, this library is good news for the Nigerian maker culture, an area that hasn’t really been talked about in tech spaces. We started a discussion last week though, at the broadcast and we figured there’s still more to be done to build maker culture in Nigeria. Well, this is part of the more, guys. The store will be closed from April 26 till May 14 so the necessaries can be taken care of, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated on the re-opening.
