  • Barely one year after the ‘Ziing App’ investment App was launched by Investment One Financial Services Limited, a leading player in the Nigerian financial services industry; it has spurred the appetite of investors in both the capital and fixed income markets.

Investment One Financial Services, formerly GTB Asset Management, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Guaranty Trust Bank Plc, launched the investment application in Lagos, January last year.

Ziing is an app powered by Investment One to ease savings, investments and reduce financial friction. The App was launched to the public about a year ago with about three features which are zSave, zPlan and Fixed Income.

Measuring the performance and impact of Ziing in Nigeria’s investment space, one year after its launch, Francis Ebuehi, Group Executive Sales and Marketing, Investment One Financial Services Limited, said the App has helped thousands of Nigerians (home and abroad) save and become more investment savvy.

‘’Within one year of launch, Ziing has had over 10,000 downloads on Android and IOS devices. Our plan for Ziing is to provide more investment opportunities and make the platform truly ‘amazing’ for users’, he said.

Ebuehi added: ‘’Today on Ziing, users can create target savings, make a fixed-income investment, trade Nigerian stocks, buy airtime and pay bills. Ziing is doing this by partnering with third parties to facilitate seamless experience on the platform. To commemorate this anniversary, we have re-launched the Ziing app with a new design interface for quick and easy navigation”.

The Ziing App, according to Ebuehi, is a complete solution package for all classes of investors available on the mobile app, USSD and web platforms

“Ziing is an App on your phone that essentially enables you to take control of your finances. It is your money buddy. It is an App that provides the user an array of financial services ranging from timely investment information to identifying available investment opportunities,” Ebuehi explained.

A major difference between Ziing and other Apps so far introduced into the Nigerian financial space is its ability to address other financial needs apart from payment.

  • Contract farming is all about contracting a farmer to farm for you and deliver a specified quantity of farm produce to a specified location on a specified date.
Crowd farming is pooling together funds to sponsor a farming project and sharing the profit with all the people that participated in the fundraising.
Many agritech startups in Nigeria are practicing crowd farming. Farm4Me stands out in offering contract farming in Nigeria.
Farm4me is the first in Nigeria to pioneer contract farming. Potential Clients sign up on their website. Receive cost total breakdown and projected yield and profit document. Make a decision on the crop and number of hectares and notify Farm4Me.
The service agreement is sent to the potential client to study carefully, sign and send back. Farm4Me signs their part of the service agreement and send the final copy to the potential Client. Once the contract has been activated, the invoice will be generated and sent to the potential Client. He makes payment and notifies Farm4Me.
Then work begins immediately on the farming project. The Client is updated on the progress of the farm.
The most outstanding part of what this startup offers is the fact that all their farms are insured by Leadway Assurance to reduce the risk of farm disaster and other losses. Should there be a low yield below the invested capital, Farm4Me undertakes to refund the client’s capital. So the client is shielded from the risk associated with farming.
The startup also undertakes with the permission of the Client to sell the farm produce at the prevailing market price and credit the client’s bank account. Or ship the farm produce to the client’s specified address on a specified date.
Asked what the cost of production entails, the CEO, Adama J. Adama said: “it covers land leasing, land clearing, land tilling, buying of seeds, planting of seeds, weeding, fertilizer and pesticide application, harvest, packaging, and transportation”.
We asked about the patronage of the contract farming service, Mr. Adama said: “we receive on the average 15 sign-ups every day”.
The most interesting part of this innovative agribusiness is the fact that it creates jobs for landowners, tractor operators, vulnerable women and youths who engage in the farm labor and farm input suppliers.
Since they started nine months ago, they have given direct and indirect jobs to over 20, 000 people.
The Founder and CEO said their vision is to build a multibillion-dollar agribusiness company in Nigeria with tangible social impact.
We asked how Farm4Me is able to convince Clients to part with hard-earned money. The CEO said “I go the extra mile to build trust and address the fears and doubts of the potential clients. It takes days and weeks of questions and answers. Sharing of my sensitive data like my National Identity card, Police Character Certificate, CAC Certificate, and Leadway Assurance Insurance Certificate. Some go as far as contacting Leadway to find out if we actually insure our farms with them. Some visit our office to interact with us face to face before making payment. We are brutally honest with them. In the end, they pay us to farm for them. We have a good number of clients that have paid us to farm for them.”
What is the future of agribusiness in Nigeria?
The future is having rich data of all the agribusiness value chain players and make them accessible to the public to build great products off it. The future is so bright. We are excited about feeding Nigeria, putting smiles on the smallholder farmers and creating jobs for vulnerable women and youths.

  • Commitment comes as part of an ambitious £320m UK aid package for strengthening Africa’s financial markets, to boost economic growth and reduce poverty at scale.

20 January 2020, London:  EFInA today welcomes an additional funding commitment from UK Aid, part of a £320m package that will initiate an ambitious new phase of financial sector development across the continent. Announced ahead of the UK-Africa Investment Summit London, the package includes additional funding for 9 existing Financial Sector Deepening Programmes (FSDs) and to set up and scale new FSDs in high-priority markets, including Ethiopia, Ghana, Sierra Leone, and the West African Monetary Union.

The new commitment, announced by Secretary of State Alok Sharma, represents the start of an important new approach to financial sector development in sub-Saharan Africa. The package from UK Aid recognizes that a comprehensive, integrated approach to financial market development in Africa is required to realize the continent’s potential and help meet the United Nation’s global goals. The £320m commitment provides funding for ambitious programs that create financing solutions for the opportunities and challenges faced across Africa’s economies, from individual households and micro-enterprises to business and infrastructure investment.  This means addressing the entire system of finance from savings groups to capital market development and operating more closely to the interface between finance and the real world.

UK International Development Secretary Alok Sharma said: “Africa’s substantial investment potential is clear, with many African countries outstripping global economic growth in recent decades. The UK is already the top financial exchange for Africa’s businesses and we want investors to seize the exciting opportunities that Africa offers. These new initiatives, announced ahead of the UK-Africa Investment Summit, will make it easier, greener and more secure to invest in Africa, mobilizing billions of pounds of sustainable investment to help end poverty.”

The Chairman of EFInA’s Board, Segun Akerele, said, “EFInA’s catalytic and strategic collaboration with financial service regulators, operators and providers has contributed to 28 million additional Nigerians accessing formal financial services since EFInA was established in late 2007 thereby reducing financial exclusion from 52.5% in 2008 to 36.8% as of 2018. Through research, advocacy, capacity building, and promoting innovation, EFInA has provided the critical support required to expand access to affordable, relevant financial services to all Nigerians, including under-served groups such as women and Northern Nigerians.”

In the wake of this new commitment, Ashley Immanuel (Head of Programmes, EFInA), says EFInA will build on its foundational work promoting financial inclusion and identify linkages with other sectors, such as agriculture, health, and education, that can drive progress toward meeting the Sustainable Development Goals in Nigeria.

The £320m package also marks an important step forward for the FSD Network. After nearly twenty years of operation and UK aid support, the FSD Network today comprises 9 active FSD programs, with a strong track record of impact, unparalleled local insight with applied research, and a powerful network of relationships with local regulators, policymakers, industry bodies, and low-income households.  The new FSDs will join the Network, enabling them to benefit from, and contribute to, continent-wide knowledge sharing and cross-border collaboration.

Betty Wilkinson, Chair of the FSD Network Council, commented on the commitment: ‘On behalf of the nine existing members of the FSD Network and those new FSDs in formation, our sincere gratitude to the UK Government for this generous, constructive, and thoughtful five-year commitment. We pledge to broaden and deepen our innovative work across Africa to make money work for low-income families, women, youth, the excluded, and those who need financial services the most. This new package will enable us to apply finance – in all its forms – to the challenge of the Sustainable Development Goals. The FSD Network will enhance livelihoods for poor people; improve access to basic human services where finance is a barrier; and enable a sustainable future, particularly addressing the financial aspects of climate change and illicit capital flows’.

Say you booked a flight and need to be updated on any changes. These and many more are Leo’s areas of specialties. He gets your problems sorted instantly, and without stress.

There are several other things UBA’s Leo can assist with. He has been programmed to deal with major banking services which include sending statements to embassies, freezing your accounts, stopping cheques, linking and funding of Prepaid cards. Leo also tells the weather, shows football highlights and goes as far as tracking your flight status when you need him to. His personality is much like a friend, as he is very reliable and easily accessible (whether in the country or across the globe).

You could just chat with him on WhatsApp  +2349030002455 or on Facebook messenger and on apple business chat.

  • Based on deep insights into market trends, Huawei has a strong understanding of what younger consumers are looking for – they put a strong emphasis on product appearance and uniqueness and want to be entertained while enjoying a premium user experience. In response to this, Huawei launched the HUAWEI Y9s to meet younger users’ requirements for smartphone products.

A phone that is all screen

HUAWEI Y9s is a big phone. Not only does it have a HUAWEI Ultra Fullview display that is 6.59 inches, but it is also free of notches, holes or sliders. HUAWEI Y9s sports a 6.59-inch negative LCD display (2340×1080) with a 1,500:1 contrast ratio. It has a wide color gamut of 85% (typical value) and can display 16.7 million colors. In addition to natural color reproduction, the screen brings out the finest details and makes colors more saturated and vibrant.

Instead of using the mainstream notch design, dewdrop, and hole-punch display, HUAWEI Y9s uses a FullView Display with a pop-up camera design to deliver a true FullView Display experience. With a boundary-free screen and sharp details, the display takes the smartphone viewing experience to a higher level.

HUAWEI Y9s features a micro-seam earpiece and a hidden ambient light sensor to make upper and bottom bezels thinner. Y9s has a 30% thinner top bezel and a 6% thinner bottom bezel. Along with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9, the screen-to-body ratio is increased to 91% (AA/CG). Such ultimate bezel-less design breaks the boundaries of a screen to bring users a wider and brighter FullView Display experience.

A cool auto pop-up selfie camera

With a large bezel-less display, Huawei had to find a way to add a front-facing camera. The result? A 16-megapixel camera with F2.2 aperture that raises out of the phone’s top edge when needed and then closes after you’ve finished snapping selfies. Huawei also designed an intelligent fall protection detector to retract the camera when it detects any free falls.

The front camera can also identify instantly and accurately eight scenarios of different objects and scenes thanks to artificial intelligence. The latter also implements diverse photographic effects, such as butterfly lighting, by reconstructing the light source to provide 3D portrait lighting for selfies and portraits.

48MP AI Triple Camera in the back

The AI Triple Camera system includes a 48MP Main Camera, an 8MP 120-degree Ultra Wide Angle Camera, and a 2MP Depth Camera. With a native resolution of 48MP, the main camera enables users to create clear images and capture more amazing details.

The main camera is a 6 Plastic (6P) lens. Compared with a 5P lens, it can capture more light, which gives the camera a higher resolution and contrast to further improve image quality. In addition, the main camera uses a 1/2-inch sensor to provide greater light sensitivity, allowing the device to produce enhanced image quality in low-light environments.

The practical 8MP Ultra Wide Angle Camera offers a 120-degree field-of-view and supports Ultra Wide Angle Video. It is 53.8% wider than the traditional 78-degree lens, almost doubling the viewing angle. Whether for wild nature scenes or group photos, the Ultra Wide Angle Camera can capture a wider view and more fun.

Meanwhile, the 2MP Depth Camera works with the Main Camera to measure the distance between the subject and the camera. By doing this, it can create professional bokeh effects to highlight the subject just like using a wide aperture lens

    Premium power

Huawei added a massive 4,000mAh battery to HUAWEI Y9s. At the core of this device, is Kirin 710F chipset, and the operating system is EMUI 9. In addition, this phone comes with 6GB RAM and 128GB ROM good enough storage for all your pictures, videos, and files.

Side-Mounted Fingerprint: Unlock in 0.3 Seconds

HUAWEI Y9s adopts a side-fingerprint design, which combines the power button and fingerprint unlock button into one. This design ensures the integrity of the front and back panels, and also makes the idea of “using one button for multiple purposes” a reality. Slightly tap the button to lock/unlock the screen. Press and hold for one second to activate Voice Assistant. Press and hold for up to three seconds to switch off the phone. In terms of unlock speed, HUAWEI Y9s provides instant recognition and unlock, which takes only 0.31 seconds with just one tap.

Premium Quality at an Affordable Price

From the inside out, the new HUAWEI Y9s is optimised to provide a combination of premium design and powerful performance at an affordable price.

HUAWEI Y9s features a Fullview Display with an integrated pop-up camera. It also learned from Huawei flagship’s optical design concept and uses a glass back to re-interpret the beauty of salt flats. Besides, it brings upgraded features, such as a 48MP rear AI Triple Camera system. As the latest addition to the HUAWEI Y Series, Y9s will take entry-level smartphones to the next level, delivering more fun and enjoyment to users.

The HUAWEI Y9s is now available in Jumia, SLOT, and Pointek nationwide.

  • Last month, MTN Nigeria hosted the elite of Nigeria’s academia and Information Technology stakeholders to the inaugural edition of its Academic Research Development and Innovation Challenge (ARDIC) at the Nile University, Abuja.

The ‘geeks’ did not only rock, they ruled supreme! One of the definitions of the word ‘geek’ in the Cambridge Dictionary is “someone who is keen about a particular subject and equally knowledgeable about it”. Others may say that the word is for the ‘unpopular’ version in all of us.

ARDIC was created to help young motivated researchers in Nigerian Universities to build and develop their research ideas into sustainable products and initiatives within six months.

Here are the six research ideas that won this year’s competition:

1.Jonhalmarktech Solutions – Media Optimization and Attribution Modeling of media advertising  spend

    Researcher – Itoro Akpan

Research: With the findings from this research, it is possible to accommodate more network  subscribers by increasing the network carrying capacity with the already existing network  infrastructures without installing new network equipment. By installing the software mechanism, it will improve the quality of service to network subscribers and also help the  network service providers to save the cost of installing new network infrastructures.

2.LogTech – Customer Complaints modeling using new media data and NLP

    Researcher – Taiwo Amoo

Research: This research gives leverage to help reduce customer complaints by anticipating  equipment failures before final breakdown of devices in order to give ample repair time to technicians before it hampers customers’ services ultimately increasing satisfaction and effective service delivery to customers of telecommunication networks/ISPs. This work can potentially save cost of transporting to customer premises to understand the concerns of customers and reduce cost of repair of equipment.

3.Etechtra – Bayesian networks to predict the creditworthiness of an individual

    Researcher – Zainab Musa

Research: Using bayesian networks to predict the creditworthiness of an individual using mobile call detail records, demographics, SMS patterns and recharge card purchases. In Africa, because of the lack of a formal credit system, continued access to a mobile phone network, by a consumer, is enabled by ‘top-ups’ through the use of pre-paid cards. I would like to explore whether in the absence of formal financial records or assets whether an accurate prediction of an individual’s creditworthiness could be made using alternative data.

    4. Nature Cares Resource Centre – AgriTech with emphasis on the use of technology for agricultural  yield optimization, storage, and preservation

            Researcher – Toyin Oshaniwa

Research: Soil Organic Carbon Management: Organic Waste to Compost. Compost improves the soil structure through stable humus aggregates. Likewise, it reduces the risk of erosion,  regulates soil moisture and increases the microbial and faunistic diversity of soils. All these  effects help to preserve SOC in the soil. (Source: FAO, 2015). Composting can also be used in incentivizing mechanisms. Organic agriculture is a production system that sustains the health of soils, ecosystems, and people.

5.Mobile Capital – Machine Learning, Bayesian models for Fintech

    Researcher – Angela Ebirim

Research: Risk assessment using smart data such as call detail records, from a person’s mobile  calling history, demographic data, and recharge card purchases to predict a credit score. In  Nigeria, formal credit scoring systems do not exist but mobile phone penetration is predicted to exceed 80% in 2020. This is a region where demand for credit far exceeds supply especially amongst economically active lower-income families which do not meet the stringent requirements for loans from traditional financial institutions such as banks.

6.D.I.C. – The Development of a Fuzzy-Weighted Socio-Transactional Churn Predictive System  for Customer Behavioural Management

    Researcher – Ibitoye Ayodeji

Research: Churn prediction is the process of identifying the propensity of a customer to switch from a service provider to another. This process has become important especially in the  telecommunications sector due to strong competitiveness among service providers. Therefore,  this study was aimed at developing a fuzzy-weighted socio-transactional churn predictive system for customer behavioral management.

  • Asset & Resource Management Holding Company Limited (ARM) is making an equity investment in Trove Technologies Ltd (Trove) – a micro-investing application that allows users to invest in financial securities in Nigeria and international markets.

This move is in line with the company’s dedication to leverage technology as a means to change how clients access and consume financial services.

It will be recalled that in May 2019, ARM had partnered with Ventures Platform to launch Labs by ARM which focused on supporting start-ups utilizing technology, applications, and services to solve specific problems. Trove emerged as one of the six participants in the program.

ARM will utilize the Trove application to offer her clients the opportunity of trading in Government Bonds, Stocks, US Exchange Traded Funds and Stocks of US companies. With the NYSE and NASDAQ having a market cap of $30.2 Trillion and $10.1Trillion respectively, making them the most valuable markets which have also consistently outperformed every other market, Nigerians through the use of Trove can have access to these markets.

ARM clients with the ARM Stocktrade App are able to seamlessly participate in the global economy and own shares in valuable companies such as Facebook, Lyft, Pinterest and Zoom to name a few without the need to reside in the US or have social security numbers.

The team behind Trove are repeat founders and finance professionals with experience working in companies in the financial sector such as Goldman Sachs and UBS Investment Bank. They are optimistic that Trove will address the existing bottlenecks in the Nigerian investment space such as lack of access to mature markets while giving Nigerians the chance to take control of their savings and investments.

Speaking about the partnership, Managing Director of ARM Financial Advisers Limited Mrs. Henrietta Bankole-Olusina said “We believe that this is a wonderful opportunity to enlarge the investment playing field for our valuable clients enabling them to trade in diverse stocks and accumulate wealth globally from the comfort of their homes. It is also our hope that this partnership will encourage more millennials to explore the world of investing in order to build a future of realized ambitions.”

The ARM Stocktrade App can be downloaded at the tap of a button on Google Playstore or iOS store.

  • In Abuja on Thursday, November 28, 2019, the ‘geeks’ did not only rock, but they also ruled supreme! One of the definitions of the word ‘geek’ in the Cambridge Dictionary is “someone who is very interested in a particular subject and knows a lot about it”. Others may say that the word is for the ‘unpopular’ version in all of us.

Whichever you may choose to swing with, Thursday was a day for the ‘smart geeks’ and to top it all, the ‘day’ continues for one lucky winner! MTN Nigeria hosted the country’s elite in academia and ICT to the inaugural edition of its Academic Research Development and Innovation Challenge (ARDIC) at the Nile University, Abuja.

The Challenge was created to help young motivated researchers in Nigerian Universities to build and develop their research ideas into sustainable products and initiatives. In addition to financial support, the winners will also enjoy six months of incubation.

Fourteen finalists from across the country were selected from hundreds of entries on different issues such as economic and commercial issues and innovations with high social impact. With a panel of experienced ICT and tech innovators ready to assess all they had, each finalist presented their research works.

After hours of stimulating solutions that could really stem actual problems in the country, Itoro Akpan, Zainab Ishaq Musa, Toyin Oshaniwa, Ibitoye Ayodeji, Taiwo Amoo and Angela Chika walked off the podium with the winning prizes of a million naira each!

“This would help me scale up and do more with my research and implement it. We got really good feedback from the judges and this feedback would help me do better. After this, I look forward to starting as soon as possible” Zainab Ishaq Musa one of the winners, explained while trying to control her emotions.

This is definitely the beginning of new things in the intellectual space and we love to see it.

  • Just like that 2019 is coming to a close and 2020 is looming above us. While some of us would have stuck to our resolutions from last year, the rest of us may have not. However, with the New Year upon us, it is time to wipe that slate clean and have a fresh set of resolutions for 2020. To help out, here is how you can use the HUAWEI Y9s to ensure you stay on track.

Make more precious memories this year

If you are aiming to make more precious memories this year, be it with family, friends or even by yourself, you are going to need a powerful camera to make sure you save it all. This is where the HUAWEI Y9s’ 48MP Triple AI Camera setup comes useful. Thanks to its combination of a 48MP main lens, 8MP 120 degree Ultra-Wide Angle lens and 2MP Depth Camera, you are promised beautiful results no matter what the subject is. Don’t worry if you are not a professional photographer, the on-board AI can recognize up to 22 scenarios and 500 scenes, making sure the camera settings are optimized for the shot. So the next time you want to take a picture of dinner with family, a holiday trip with friends or even stunning landscape shots of scenery and skylines, all you have to do is point and click. You can even take well-lit night shots with the help of AIS Night Mode, while video features like EIS Anti-Shake video recording and Super Slow-Motion lets you add a director’s touch to your videos.

Of course, in today’s world, making memories naturally involves taking selfies and the HUAWEI Y9s delivers on that front too. Hidden away into the top edge of the phone, the HUAWEI Y9s’ 16MP AI Selfie Camera will automatically pop-up only when activated, letting you create beautiful selfies, while not causing an interruption on your screen. Don’t be fooled by this small camera though, it packs powerful AI features that let you take perfect selfies even in situations where lighting can be challenging, while also providing the option of 3D Portrait Lighting for studio like effects, because who doesn’t like a perfect selfie? To top it off, both front and rear camera also ensure you look your best thanks to Adaptive AI Beauty, which enhances your facial features for a stunning result, always.

    Focus on being more organized

Spent most of this year being all around the place? This New Year, put it all together and ensure you are more organized. How you ask? As the saying goes, “There is an app for that!” The HUAWEI Y9s can take the load of many apps, thanks to 128GB of extendable storage (up to 512GB) and ensure the smoothest performance with the help of 6GB RAM and the Kirin 710F processor. Additionally, features like Huawei EROFS File System and Full Scene Acceleration, will ensure that both storage and app performance is optimized, to provide you with a seamless user experience.

Do more of what you like

Be it reading a new book, catching up with your favorite series, boding with your friends while playing video games or even focusing on health, the HUAWEI Y9s can do it all. Not only does the phone’s hardware allow you to download and store a lot of apps, but it also ensures that you enjoy doing it. With a 6.59 inch FHD+ screen that has no bezels at all, everything you do is a lot more fun and immersive. No matter what app you download, games you play, series you watch or even books you read on the HUAWEI Y9s, you are guaranteed one of the best experiences.

Don’t worry about running out of charge either because with the HUAWEI Y9s’ Ultra Large Battery of 4000mAh, you can get powerful performance all-day long.

With the New Year right around the corner, now is a perfect time to get cracking on setting those resolutions, and with the HUAWEI Y9s, you can stick to them properly this time. Available in Huawei’s popular shades of Breathing Crystal and Midnight Black, the glass bodied HUAWEI Y9s brings to the table powerful features and stylish looks, making it the perfect way to start your New Year.

The HUAWEI Y9s is now available in Jumia, SLOT and Pointek nationwide.

  • I remember the first time my mom asked for my help financially. I was about 16 and we were driving past a fast food joint. She wanted to get some food but she didn’t have her wallet with her. I had mine so she asked if she could use my N2,500 to pay for the food and repay me later. I turned around, looked her straight in the eye and said: “there is rice at home.” Just kidding, I bought it for her and we went home.

That was eleven years ago and a lot has changed since then. For starters, my retired mother needs far more than 2500 Naira from me these days and while I’m always excited to help her out financially, I have always felt like I could be doing more to compensate for all the sacrifices she made for me.

This Christmas, I decided to do something nice for her and buy her a car.  Finding the perfect car is huge stress because as you know, some cars usually come with one “awooof” or the other and some are overly expensive so I searched high and low. Finally, I stumbled upon something I didn’t even know I should have been searching for. The Plentywaka Vehicle PartnershipPartnership opportunity. I was presented with three options:

    1. Vehicle Onboarding: This means that owners of vehicles can enlist their vehicles on the Plentywaka platform and as their drivers generate revenues for them, they get paid weekly.
    2. Vehicle Lease Financing: With this, you get to incur just 30% of the equity cost and then partner with a Vehicle Leasing Company to make a 70% contribution to the vehicle. The vehicle will then be placed on Plentywaka to convey passengers and generate revenues for all parties involved.
    3. Vehicle Purchase with Cars45: This option allows individuals to directly purchase their vehicles on Cars45 then get them placed on the Plentywaka pool. This is a direct purchase method that will see quality vehicles purchased and placed on the Plentywaka platform having met the quality checks by Cars45.

What got my interest in all three options was the fact that I could set up a partnership with my mother’s details and she would be earning 500k – 800k returns monthly while contributing to safe and convenient transportation in my city. After assessing all the options, I decided to buy a car for her through Cars45 and place the car on the Plentywaka pool.

This option was really exciting because she would be earning returns, the car would remain 100% hers, and she would be aiding safe and convenient transportation.

She would also be creating job opportunities for drivers and Vehicle Assistants through her vehicle. I called my mother and informed her of the surprise Christmas gift and she was ecstatic. She sang praises and prayers in my ears for giving her such a thoughtful gift and I was so happy I was able to compensate even in the slightest way to all the sacrifices she had made for me.

If you want to put a smile on your parents’ faces too, it’s very easy:

    1. Visit www.plentywaka.com/partner
    2. Fill in your contact details.
    3. Select the type of partnership from the options available.
    4. Our customer care will call for a follow-up.

Open a Plentywaka Vehicle Partnership program for your parents today! Get them a gift that will keep on giving every month.

  •  A pan-African technology company, Cellulant Corporation, has affirmed its commitment to helping fix Nigeria’s broken agriculture value-chain with innovative solutions.

Agriculture is a crucial economic sector accounting for about 23 percent of Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), but the value chain is highly underdeveloped.

    L-R:
MD/CEO, Wema Bank, Ademola Adebise; CO-CEO, Cellulant Corporation, Bolaji Akinboro and Chief Compliance Officer, Cellulant Corporation, Solomon Abiakalam at the Inaugural Partners’ Summit organized by Cellulant in Lagos on Wednesday.

Speaking at Cellulant’s inaugural partners’ summit themed ‘Technology for Transformation: Connecting Everyone to Nigeria’s $50bn Agribusiness Opportunity & Creating Jobs for Africa’s Youth’ held in Lagos on Wednesday, December 18, co-founder and CEO, Cellulant Corporation, Bolaji Akinboro, said the company would not relent in helping to improve the Agric value chain.

In his presentation entitled ‘From Farm to Fork: Transforming the Agribusiness in Nigeria Through Technology-What does the Future Hold’, Akinboro explained that the country’s Agric-value chain needed to be fixed to enjoy the immense riches in the sector.

He disclosed that consumption of food, the end product of most agricultural activities in the country is worth about $100million daily and between$36 billion to $50 billion annually, hence the need to improve the value chain.

He also highlighted Cellulant’s strides in improving the agriculture value chain with its payment platform, Tingg, and Agrikore, an innovative platform built on blockchain technology.

Akinboro said: “We are not just a fintech company; we have the technology and operations via Agrikore. When you combine technology and operations, you can change the world. We are providing technology that makes life better for everyone; Nigerians and Africans. We are the ones that can bring in the change.

“At Cellulant, we remain committed to providing innovative-led solutions to grow the agricultural sector and empower Nigerian farmers. We pioneered Agritech innovation that powers the livelihoods of more than 17 million farmers and allows all players to connect to solutions that transform how they do business.”

Akinboro added that “technology is a critical enabler to solve many of the challenges experienced in the Agric sector. In the last 15 years, Cellulant has actively contributed to connecting all key stakeholders in the value chain, who in the past never interacted with each other. Today, the business has built a marketplace and payments platform that provides access to markets, digital financial services, and opens opportunities for all stakeholders to collaborate better and capture the $50b market opportunity.”

    L-R:
MD/CEO, Wema Bank, Ademola Adebise; CO-CEO, Cellulant Corporation, Bolaji Akinboro; Chief Compliance Officer, Cellulant Corporation, Solomon Abiakalam and Manager, Retail Marketplace, Cellulant Nigeria, Jennifer Onyebuagu at the Inaugural Partners’ Summit organized by Cellulant in Lagos on Wednesday.

Also speaking at the occasion attended by critical stakeholders in the agribusiness ecosystem including farmers, aggregators, and retailers, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Wema Bank, Adebisi Adebise, reiterated the importance of cooperation between every player in the Agric value chain.

Adebise identified problems of the Agric sector to include a low level of budgetary allocation, low financial literacy, a large percentage of unbanked population and the limited capacity of financial institutions to understand the value-chain, assured that Wema Bank would continue to partner Cellulant to improve agriculture.

  • The time has come. The technology analysis is now available for people to look at and it all revolves around a very interesting word- “we”. Here are some of the latest changes that you should be looking out for.

    The IOT

The term IOT essentially refers to any objects that are connected to the internet on a day to day basis. Automated systems are allowed to function this way and everyday information can easily be shared quickly and efficiently. Some of the predictions that have come to light recently have stated that the IOT is going to account for well over 25% of the global economy and that there are going to be a host of new products released too. Of course, only time will tell if this is going to be the case but right now it looks like there are some exciting things in the pipeline.

    The Rise of Machines

Markets and Markets are actually a research firm and they are always doing whatever they can to predict the rise of artificial intelligence. They strongly believe that the AI industry is going to grow by over $16 billion and that they are going to reach over $190 billion in the next 5 or 6 years. They also believe that tech companies are going to be touting chatbots and that there are going to be even more changes to come. Of course, this could also have a huge impact on the gambling and casino industry too. Sites such NetBet Slots  are going to thrive and this is because the technology changes that are happening right now really are going to gear towards this market.

    Brexit is Going to Hit

The political act on one end of the world is going to have consequences that reach across the globe. If the deal happens to go sour and if Britain slips into turmoil, then a lot of lucrative technology companies might jump ship. If they do, where are they going to go? Right now, things look to be following some kind of peak mentality and it’s entirely possible that another city in the world will become host to the brightest and most promising tech start-ups. London could be very close to losing its place right now.

    Blockchain

Ah, the blockchain. It’s risen and fallen, and nobody really knows what is next. The only thing that we do know is that it has helped to bring Bitcoin into the limelight. The Blockchain was once a very secure system and it was also used to record transactions. Going forward, it does seem unlikely that companies are going to adapt the technology that they have for security-related tasks unless the blockchain is further developed.

    Automation

Is there any industry in the world that is safe from automation? Probably not. As time goes by, it would seem as though it’s down to both employees and even employers to find a balance that is going to help them with their efficient production and even their human involvement too.

In summary- some of the changes we can expect in 2019 include:

    • A possible blockchain movement
    • A rise in automation
    • A new leading city for technology
    • Machine progression
    • IOT transformation
  • The Industry Innovation Sandbox will connect innovators to regulators in order to responsibly bring new financial services solutions to the market.

Lagos, Nigeria – December 9, 2019 – The Financial Services Innovators (FSI), a community of Fintech enthusiasts passionate about driving innovation in the financial services industry, announced today the launch of the Nigerian Industry Innovation Sandbox, at the sidelines of EFInA’s Financial Inclusion Conference in Lagos. The effort, which is supported by over N250 million naira in multi-year grants from Flourish and EFInA is intended to lower the barriers to innovation within the financial services ecosystem.

“The time to change the narrative of the financial services landscape in Nigeria is here and I am excited to lead this charge at FSI, where we aim to build an inclusive ecosystem of Fintech innovators”, said Aituazobe Omoareloje Kola-Oladejo, former head of research and development at the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), who was appointed as the first FSI Executive Director. “I am especially excited for the Fintech Industry Innovation Sandbox, which will lower the barriers for early-stage innovators building and scaling global Fintech innovation from Nigeria.”

“Like people, countries must evolve. We must create an environment that enables our people, young and old, as well as the country, take control of our tech future”, said Ade Shonubi, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

To participate in the industry innovation sandbox, innovators need to register as members of the Financial Services Innovators at www.fsi.ng and access a sandbox environment where they can build and test Fintech products on technical infrastructure from the NIBSS.

Before FSI, innovators who needed to access the right technical infrastructure to test the viability of their products were typically required to get a CBN license and spend months in meetings with banks, Fintech players, and NIBSS to get pilots off the ground. With the new industry innovation sandbox, registered members of the FSI can leverage the APIs to build a solution within the sandbox environment before seeking regulatory approval from the CBN or partnering with an existing financial services provider licensed by the CBN to take their product to launch.

“When regulators and startups engage in meaningful dialogue and mutual support, it is possible to balance innovation with stability and consumer protection,” said Ameya Upadhyay, principal at Flourish, a venture of The Omidyar Group. “Through initiatives such as the industry sandbox, FSI will help accelerate the growth of Nigeria’s Fintech ecosystem and bring about innovative services that will help improve Nigerians’ financial health.”

FSI was ideated during an innovator’s breakfast organized by the NIBSS and CBN in 2017 convening representatives from Nigerian Fintechs and local tech hubs. The organization is set up as a nonprofit and governed by a board of trustees comprised of representatives from the CBN, the NIBSS, and chaired by an elected member representing the country’s Fintech community. The first innovator to join FSI’s Board of Trustees is Iyinoluwa Aboyeji, a serial entrepreneur and angel investor, who co-founded Andela and Flutterwave, one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing Fintech companies, backed by global investors such as Mastercard, Greycroft, and Y Combinator Continuity Fund, among others.

    https://www.instagram.com/p/B52LZ2JhMAg/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

“Nigeria has a unique opportunity to transform our challenges in the areas of financial health and inclusion into an opportunity to become a global leader in financial services innovation for emerging markets,” said Iyinoluwa Aboyeji, FSI Chair of the Board of Trustees. “This industry sandbox will be the first step on that adventurous path.”

Furthermore, the FSI executive director is advised by an Executive Committee comprised of representative innovators, including Adegbola Abudu, CEO of Capricorn Digital Limited, Mosh Adetoro, CEO of Qrios, Wole Odetayo, CEO of Wennovation Hub, and Wale Obadare, CEO of Digital Encode.

FSI welcomes early-stage and established innovators, creators, and developers in financial services to register to access the industry sandbox by visiting www.fsi.ng/join.  For more information on FSI, please email info@fsi.ng.

The question is, why is there such an obsession with knowing what happens in the future? Are people just trying to be show-offs who can come back to our time and brag about the fancy new things they have seen?

The robot servants. The three square meals in one pill. Flying cars. Of course, for the Lagosians, the traffic will still follow them to the sky because ‘bumper to bumper’ is the official Lagos coat of arms. Or should we say ‘wing to wing’?

Seeing these exciting things is definitely a big part of the appeal of looking into the future but the main reason is very simple. Uncertainty.

Many people are going through tough economic situations today and would like to know how long they will keep living this life. Would it last forever or will there be a big miracle in 5 years from now that would change everything? Others are doing quite well and want to make sure that their fortunes remain the same or become even better. No matter how rich you become, you can’t for sure predict where that wealth will be in 20 years’ time.

While it is not possible to see ahead, it is definitely wise to do everything possible today to make sure there is some security for your future. People talk a lot about saving for a rainy day and this is very important but is it enough? When you depend only on savings for your future needs, your money is waiting for you to come and use it when you are ready. It is not out there hustling to make you more money.

To get your money to work for you, you need to have different types of investment in your financial portfolio. And when it comes to specifically insure your future, a pension account is the most important part of that portfolio.

Your pension is not something to worry about later, to start when you are 40. Your pension account should be an active future-focused investment that grows as you grow your career or business.

It is not about tomorrow, it is about today.

And that’s exactly how Premium Pension thinks about pensions. To live that premium life we all want to buy time machines to peek at, we all need to start investing in our pensions accounts today. Premium Pension wants to make this as easy as possible for young people to make a priority.

If you thought that pensions were all brick and mortar transactions and tailored for people who have the time to schedule weekly 2-hour meetings with their account officers. Think again. With Premium Pension, you can get everything done with an app. From exploring offerings as a non-member to signing up and becoming a member with a payment schedule. There is no need to go into a branch to get your account up, investing and keeping you updated. There is even a referral rewards program for those of us that like to enjoy with our friends.

This 100% applies to the entrepreneurs, freelancers and ‘Insta-moguls’ amongst us. With a micro-pension account from Premium Pension, people who work for themselves can now start to build their own pension accounts on their own terms and they even get access to up to 40% of their total balance at any time for that sudden business expansion plan that needs the extra cash. And with Premium Pension’s expertise in investing its members’ money with one of the highest rates of return in the pension industry, you can be sure that 40% would include a nice chunk of interest from all the extra money your money’s been making for you on the daily.

Take a look at what your future could hold for you when you download the Premium Pension app and use the pension calculator to start planning just how much you need to do all the gardening or skydiving you are planning for your golden years.

  • National Personal Asset Acquisition Scheme (NAPAAS) has concluded the automation of its asset acquisition scheme specifically designed for the Nigerian Legion, an association of all ex-servicemen and women in Nigeria.

Among the provisions made to ensure smooth operation and management of the scheme for all stakeholders was NAPAAS’ partnership with Chams Plc as its technology solution provider
Resulting from this partnership, NAPAAS has been able to deploy a robust, integrated, secure and multi-channeled asset acquisition platform available online and via mobile app, to automate and manage key processes and transactions end-to-end, with minimal human intervention.

The platform, has, therefore, simplified and automated the registration, asset discovery, application, approval, collections, monitoring, and reporting of activities.
The Mobile App is a simple and flexible application imbued with artificial intelligence features including liveness detection and face matching.

Commenting on the new partnership initiative, Gavin Young, the Group Managing Director of Chams PLC said, “Military pensioners are the ultimate beneficiaries of the platform, ensuring they can acquire goods and services at affordable rates, linked to a structured and automated repayment plan. As the technology partner to NAPAAS and its esteemed members, our aim is to assist with fulfilling the vision of the scheme, which enables military service pensioners to acquire personal basic assets with ease through the NAPAAS customer technology platform, designed with NAPAAS and developed by Chams Plc.

“The platform is easy-to-use, ensuring a great user experience. Ex-servicemen and women can safely apply for goods and services directly from their mobile phones. Chams Plc is proud to be associated with an initiative that supports Nigeria’s veterans in a way that improves their lives through access to goods and services at discounted rates and facilitating easy repayment terms. Members could then use the various assets to generate business and related income.

“With technology playing an important role in the success of the initiative for NAPAAS and its customers, Chams Plc is privileged to have been selected as the technology solution provider. We expect to soon add additional services to the platform; such as micro-insurance and other beneficial solutions”

NAPAAS is an initiative of President Muhammadu Buhari, for Ex-Servicemen, enabling them to access economic empowerment through public-private partnership initiatives.
The NAPAAS’ plan is consistent with the Federal Government’s palliative action to alleviate poverty, create jobs and eliminate insecurity. The scheme is also designed to provide basic needs items at affordable discounted rates linked to a structured and flexible repayment plan for the benefit of interested veterans nationwide. It has the capacity to provide access to health and other insurance, mortgage plans, personal loans, and much more.

  • VAR is a sports technology that is supposed to help referees make almost precise decisions in-game incidents that are too fast for the referee to consider an objective test. The team observing the VAR using a wireless headset must inform the referee that any incident that changes the game changes. VAR is supposed to help referees only in four areas: goals, penalties, red cards, and false identities. However, since the use of this technology, many reactions have followed the use of the VAR on whether its use may be subjective to the arbitrator when it should be objective.

Watford coach Quique Sánchez Flores is a good example. He says he loses his confidence in VAR as a strike force. It was after two decisive decisions against his team in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Tottenham Hotspur, leaving them still without a win this season.

The visitors started to fly when Abdoulaye Doucoure scored in the sixth minute and could have received a penalty shot when Jan Vertonghen fell on Gerard Deulofeu. Dele Alli denied Watford his first win in nine games with a late strike that was initially ruled out for handball.

It was then awarded after a VAR exam, although Harry Kane appeared to be putting pressure on defender Christian Kabasele during the set-up. The moment was also confused when the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium screens said for the first time “no goal”, before correcting themselves to show that the goal had been granted.

“I thought VAR was something objective, but I’m starting to think it’s very subjective, I think it’s a lack of Kane in Kabasele, he pushed it with his hands, I think we let’s lose something, it’s very odd, you think VAR is helping football, but that’s not the case, “Sánchez Flores told a news conference.

Hawk-Eye Innovations, the company that provides VAR technology, has promised to work with officials and the Premier League to avoid more problems. Yuri Tielemans crowned an individual performance inspired by an excellent second-half winner when Leicester City defeated Burnley 2-1 at King Power Stadium.

However, the visiting team had a late equalizer that VAR had controversially rejected.

Former Leicester forward Chris Wood, who qualified for Burnley in 26 minutes, scored for the second time in 80 minutes. But VAR technology intervened to declare that it had made a mistake against Jonny Evans during the accumulation. Burnley’s manager, Sean Dyche, was furious because his team was gone with nothing of a game marked by much emotion.

It was the first anniversary of the death of former Leicester President Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha and four others in a helicopter crash. Jamie Vardy tied Wood’s first game with a great head just before the break.

He rose high to face Harvey Barnes’ center from seven yards for his sixth goal of the season. Demarai Gray, substitute, strove not to let the offside before making a revealing contribution in 74 minutes.

It was at this point that he focused on Harvey Barnes to pick Tielemans, who hit the ball home at the last post. The win propelled Leicester into second place, before the final kickoff of Manchester City against Crystal Palace, with 17 points, while Burnley is eighth with 12 points.

“I think we deserved the three points because, in the end, we did not give very clear opportunities.” It’s difficult to come here and control the game. All we could do was defend and limit the opponent and that’s what we did. “ Some NetBet fans agree with him.

“Hawk-Eye apologizes to the Spurs and Watford fans for the confusion caused, we are working with the Office of Professional Gaming Officials and the Premier League to understand the root cause of this problem and propose a series measures so that it does not happen again, “he said in a statement posted on Twitter.

Sanchez Flores was also questioned about Deulofeu’s call for a criminal hit. It’s a shame, I have no idea (why it was not given), “he said. The Spaniard regretted that his team, which remains at the bottom of the table, could not take all points after an exhibition .. matures against the UEFA Champions League finalists last season.

Tottenham coach Mauricio Pochettino said the mistake on the VAR screen had nothing to do with his club and that it was a Premier League problem. He also said that the way his team managed to save a point could help them get back on track after a rotten race. That includes a 7-2 defeat by Bayern Munich and a 3-0 defeat by Brighton and Hove Albion.

“After Bayern, our confidence was in the apartment. The way we explained the problem, in the end, was so important that we continued to fight. I hope this is the first step to strengthen our confidence, “said Pochettino.

Sponsored by the Lagos State Government through the office of the Special Adviser on Innovation and Technology and the Eko Innovation Center, Art of Technology Lagos 1.0 will take place over the 5th and 6th of December in Lagos at the Oriental Hotel and will feature 4 keynotes, 5 product launches, 20 industry speakers and 1 full startup funding. Also expected at the event are 17 tech hubs, 50 developers, 23 investors, 28 startups and over 2000 participants.

In his welcome address, Mr. Olatubosun Alake, Special Adviser on Innovation and Technology to the Governor of Lagos State, said there was a need for government and private sector to co-create wealth. “The private sector can create wealth; you need the government’s help to multiply it.”

He noted that feedback from the design thinking sessions will be used in developing the Lagos Innovation Masterplan which will be unveiled during the Art of Technology 1.0, reassuring attendees that their contributions were key in developing the much-needed blueprint.

Pledging commitment to government and tech collaboration, the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat said, “It is the people in the IT space that can change this country. We need to utilize the tech innovation ecosystem in the development of our nation. We have to agree: let the private sector grow the economy while the government focuses on the rule of law. Then, we collaborate to make this happen.”

He added that academia had a role to play citing the example of how Silicon Valley started at Stanford. “The universities play a key role in the growth of tech innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem in Nigeria.”

This was echoed by Mr. Toba Otusanya, Director General of the Office of Transformation, Creativity, and Innovation, Lagos State Government, who identified the public sector, private sector, and academia as the three key pillars needed to promote the culture of creativity and innovation.

Speaking on the theme of Art of Technology Lagos 1.0 ‘Bridging the Gap,’ Mr. Afolabi said, “Government has promised to make data accessible to the people in the ecosystem in the manner and form they will want it. Data is the new oil. That is what is going to empower and energize the ecosystem to begin to create a lot of things.”

This was reiterated by the Commissioner for Transportation, Lagos, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde who emphasized the key role data plays in addressing the perennial congestion plaguing Lagos roads. He said a unified ticketing system across rail, road, and water will help the government in planning and improving the public transport system which accounts for 70%.

Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mr. Hakeem Fahm posited that power supply is key in achieving success in the tech ecosystem.

The highly engaging event saw the attendees writing down solutions to making Lagos a smart city. These were collated and grouped under access, talent, infrastructure, and capital. Focused breakout sessions addressing the four areas provided an opportunity for the Deputy Governor to engage with stakeholders by sitting in and contributing to the conversations.

It is expected that these conversations will be deepened and broadened at the Art of Technology 1.0 which will center on tech & culture, building MVPs, consumer-centric products (and not just apps), the future of work, funding mechanics and women in tech. There will also be ‘Hard-Talk’ sessions where truths will be laid bare by both the government and the tech community. Innovators will also have a chance to showcase products that solve Lagos’ problems and in return receive support from Lagos State Government.

In his closing remarks, the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Lagos, Engr. Olalere Odusote tasked the tech community in coming up with a pocket-friendly metering solution in order to improve the distribution of electricity across the state.

Mr. Afolabi while expressing his satisfaction with the turnout and high level of participation recorded at the parley reiterated Mr. Governor’s commitment to the tech community in Lagos.

“This is the government leading the engagement and making landmark commitments to an ecosystem, not to an individual or a company.”

  • Not 1, but 2 partnerships! QuickCheck, a micro-lending mobile platform that provides collateral-free loans, has announced its new partnerships with Jumia and PayAttitude, to get even closer to the majority of Nigerians who still lack access to credit.

According to CEO Fabiano Di Tomaso, “The QuickCheck app was specifically designed to solve the difficulties Nigerians face in seeking access to credit. I believe that the increasing importance of financial inclusion as a catalyst for economic growth and development cannot be overemphasized. Internet is on the rise and according to NCC, Nigeria had 123 million GSM internet subscribers in September this year, up 19 million from last year. More and more digital consumers use digital services, pay bills, shop and make payments online. Increased e-commerce transactions and smartphone penetration are indicative of a population segment seeking for a higher quality of living, it typically corresponds to the underbanked, which we currently serve.”

For the past six months, QuickCheck has been the only credit provider for Jumia customers subscribed to the JumiaOne app. JumiaOne, Nigeria’s top lifestyle app lets consumers buy airtime, pay bills and have access to all Jumia services in one place. QuickCheck takes it one step further by partnering with Jumia to provide their customers with access to loans, through its own credit scoring algorithm used for the underwriting of borrowers. QuickCheck’s affiliation with Jumia will allow customers to easily take loans on a mobile app they are already actively using.

QuickCheck is also collaborating with PayAttitude – Payment Scheme and a key player in the fin-tech industry. Pay Attitude is the first and only multi-bank USSD and Mobile app for POS, Web payments, ATM Cash Withdrawal, and person-to-person transactions using just a phone number.

Speaking shortly after the official sign-off, Babatunde Okeniyi, the CEO of PayAttitude, stated that “This partnership is a testimony to the commitment of PayAttitude to democratizing access to financial/payment services. The future is mobile and PayAttitude is driving inclusion through mobile in a way never before done.” This partnership with PayAttitude will therefore provide convenient platform for QuickCheck to make loans available to hundreds of thousands of customers.

Fabiano, commenting on the partnership expressed his excitement at the opportunity QuickCheck has in reducing the inclusion gap in the country and enabling consumers’ participation in the economy through its digital financial services.

What does this mean for Nigerians? People who have been financially excluded now have multiple avenues to take loans from, on platforms they are already using. These digital partnerships support the rapid emergence of new cross-industry business models as everything becomes connected and digital.

“Yes, we do rely on our leading product, the QuickCheck app, that is our main focus. However, we are driven by the relentless pace of innovation – we see challenges every day and we want to solve them and improve people’s lives. We have a team dedicated exclusively to problem validation and testing of new ideas. If we can imagine a solution, we can build it. We also have a few other projects in the pipeline with third parties We believe they will push us to an even wider audience and help to achieve our end goal- financial inclusion.” Remarked Di Tomaso.

He concluded with a message to potential partners: “If these lines relate to your way of being and you have access to a large pool of consumers, contact us! We can explore win-win options.”

  • Over 100 tech startup founders had the rare privilege of learning potential pitfalls to avoid in their entrepreneurship journey from a panel of successful tech startup founders at the Greenhouse Lab Startup Ecosystem Exchange 2019. The event held on Friday, 22 November 2019, featuring some of Africa’s top founders: Temitope Omotolani of Crowdyvest, Josh Sandler of Lori Systems, Tayo Bamiduro of MAX, Ejimonye Ofodum of Fichaya and Francis Osifo of 54Gene.

Speaking on the reason for hosting the event, Founding Partner at GreenHouse Capital, Bunmi Akinyemiju, said the Ecosystem Exchange was designed to help finalists for its immersive female-focused Tech Accelerator program – GreenHouse Lab -to access first-hand advice from established tech startups and meet other founders in the African tech ecosystem.

“The Ecosystem Exchange is one of the core events we held as part of GreenHouse Lab, our acceleration program that develops the capacity of 10 hand-selected founding teams to run successful ventures and position them to attract quality investments globally. We are delighted that these successful co-founders took out time to share their experiences and most especially their mistakes on their road to success. We are convinced that insights shared at the Ecosystem Exchange have provided learnings that will better position the GreenHouse Lab cohort for success,” explained Akinyemiju.

At the Ecosystem Exchange, the founders shared insights on how they’ve overcome hurdles in their businesses. One theme that all founders agreed as critical to avoiding fuckups was investing in their teams. According to Francis Osifo, “You can make the mistakes 10,000 times; it’s about how quickly you can bounce back. You can make mistakes anywhere but don’t make mistakes in your people”; and Ejimonye Ofodum said, “I quickly realized that I’m not in a tech business. I’m in a people business. I had to re-orient my people’s mindset”.

The founders were also unanimous on the need to change mindsets in order to achieve success with Temitope Omotolani commenting: Ideas are beautiful. The market is different. Prepare for disappointment because you are dealing with mindsets.  It’s difficult to change a mind that is set; and Tayo Bamiduro emphasized, “Changing a mindset is possible but it’s hard work. You must be creative around how you use incentives. Understand your users in detail.”

The second part of the event saw the panellists’ field questions from the audience and Josh Sandler revealed he would like to see the system work more efficiently when asked what he would be most excited for moving forward.

Following the panel session, the founders in the room had the chance to have one-on-one interactions with the panellists. Tochi Adesanya, Founder at Liveizy- a startup that helps reduce the cost of living for Nigerians through tech solutions -said attending the event was time well spent stating that, “Most people focus on the glitzy part of startups’ journeys to success and rarely talk about the challenges they had to surmount to get there. I am happy GreenHouse Capital extended the invite to the event to other startups outside of its Tech Accelerator program and I look forward to implementing lessons from today’s event at Liveizy”.

The final event of GreenHouse Lab will be a Demo Day on Thursday, 5 December 2019 where the cohort will present their businesses to an audience of global investors, entrepreneurs, corporates and media.
