At the end of the day, each of the 5 finalists that participated was a winner and went home with a prize and we all agreed that Murtala Sani of Wesabi deserved the first prize.” He added.

DAAYTA 2019 Awards was proudly supported by TechnoVision Communications Limited, a technology services company with speciality in advising clients on technology-led transformation and early-stage entrepreneurship in Africa.

  • TERAWORK is connecting Freelancers With Contractors

For many years, we were led to believe that there was just one legal route to becoming wealthy; going to school, getting good grades and then getting a good job. Eventually, people realized that more than one road leads to the market. The roads, however, multiplied when the concept of the internet took off. E-commerce is becoming an integral part of retail, most businesses now have a digital footprint, and data is slowly becoming the next best digital currency.

Online Business – The Road Less Travelled

Although the internet and other associated innovations have greatly multiplied the road to greatness, we still have very few people who are willing to take that path. As usual, we still have many hesitant folks who are openly against the imminent revolution.

It is not surprising to see youths who refuse to shop online because they fear that the online store will not deliver the correct item. Also, some people are still wary of online investment in digital currencies because they were once burned by fraudsters perpetrating Ponzi schemes.

The aim of this article is not to discard your fear or to downplay your suspicions. In fact, we are probably going to highlight other fears that you didn’t know before now. We are also going to give you reasons why, despite your fears, you should still forge ahead because there is more to gain than to lose.

    The Freelance Economy in Nigeria

In 2008, arguably the worst economic downturn that ever happened hit the global financial sphere and this occurrence caused a lot of people to re-evaluate their career choices. In several countries, this was when erstwhile accomplished managers and financial traders turned to the internet to start e-commerce businesses, and creative directors started selling their services online.

In Nigeria, the concept of freelancing didn’t become ubiquitous due to several reasons. The major reason was due to the barrier to entry. The only freelance platforms available prevented the average Nigerian from signing up or getting paid, besides, the infrastructure in place discouraged youths from getting into the business.

Investors failed to grow the Nigerian freelance market because they also perceived that the masses weren’t ready for such an initiative. This was a time when over 50 million youths in the country were branded as “Lazy Nigerian Youths”, and the hard-working ones were being paraded online for fraud. This was also the time when a lot of university graduates were investing in skills like photography, graphics design, content creation, and programming. The implication was that we had an economy filled with freelancers who weren’t recognized for their talent.

But the story has changed and we have come a long way. Social media has solidified our trust online and we have people advertising their wares, skills, and talent online. It is not uncommon to see tweets about “Please retweet, my buyer is on your TL” and the likes.

But we decided to take it up a notch, why not amplify our strengths by connecting clients to the already-behemoth pool of talents we have?

Overcoming Your Fear of Fraud with TERAWORK

TERAWORK is a leading platform where customers can access a rich, readily available pool of freelancers for prompt responses to orders and fast turnaround of deliverables. The platform has measures in place to ensure that your tasks are handled only by the most suitable hands. From graphics design to web design and data science, the platform has got your business needs covered on multiple fronts.

How Does TERAWORK Eliminate Your Doubts?

    Helping you Monetize Your Skill

We all have that friend who is extremely good at a particular task. Whenever there’s a slight issue, that friend is always up and running, and he has that solution that never fails. You might even be the friend in question and you’ve not realized how valuable you are. TERAWORK appreciates your value and will help you advertise your skill to the right audience.

    Ensuring that Freelancers Get Paid

Remember all those days of ‘paid with exposure and attention’? Well, those days are over! TERAWORK aims to ensure that freelancers no longer have to beg clients to get their hard-earned money. As a creative designer, you are valuable to the freelance ecosystem and the company understands that constantly worrying about how to get your money will affect your performance.

Ensuring that Clients Get Value for Money

Do you know how bad it is when you hire an artisan or a professional, hoping that you get stellar services, and then the end result is a disappointment? Well, almost everyone does. But with the way TERAWORK manages service delivery, this will soon be history. Not only will you be assured of getting the delivery, you know the quality you’ll get is top-notch.

Assuring You of On-Time and Quality Delivery

In a conventional setting, once the artisan provides you with terrible service, the worst you can do is go online and slander the business. Considering the fact that not many businesses operate online, they will easily get away with such misdemeanor. However, on TERAWORK, the structure of the platform is such that you cannot afford to be nonchalant with the delivery. Hence, you are sure of getting the best service available.

    Conclusion

The truth is, TERAWORK is here to knock several drawbacks of outsourcing out of the equation for both customers and freelancers. Like we said before, your fears are valid, however, so are your dreams. Why not soar with TERAWORK today?

  • Bitpeza is Solving the Remittance Payments Challenge in Sub-Saharan Africa using Blockchain Technology

Africa loses billions due to the high cost of remittances – billions of dollars in remittances flowed to Africa in 2017. The money could go further if it was not more expensive to send money to Africa than anywhere else in the world, a new World Bank study finds.

From an economic point of view, the rapid growth in the numbers from Africa is of great interest. This is especially true for the money transfer industry. Remittances to sub-Saharan Africa grew to $37.8 billion in 2017, according to the World Bank and are forecast to hit around $39.2 billion this year and $39.6 billion in 2019. Perhaps unsurprisingly, as the largest population and economy, Nigeria topped African recipients with $22.3 billion in 2017. Liberia was the African country for whom remittances accounted for the highest share of GDP at about 25.9%.

These excess fees cost the African continent $1.8 billion a year; enough money to pay for the primary school education of 14 million children in the region.

A World Bank report shows that the cost of sending remittances to Sub-Saharan Africa continues to be far higher than any other region in the world. On average, to send $200 to and from a country in the region costs almost $19 in the first quarter of 2018. This is more than 20% higher than the charge for remittance to any other region. (Globally, about $600 billion in remittances were sent in 2017).

“The African diaspora is making a lot of money and they want to be able to send money and make payments to countries of their origin. Research has found that these payments are majorly used for basic expenses such as food, clothing, transportation and education, making them vital to the livelihood of those in developing nations,” said Bitpeza Co-founder Nengolong Samuel.

One reason to be optimistic about remittance costs decreasing is the move away from cash towards digital payments. Digital transactions get rid of the need for physical agents and the costs associated with moving around large amounts of cash.

Blockchain technology is the foundation for cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. With blockchain, a tally of transactions is encrypted and stored in every participating account’s ledger, in the form of blocks. This means that a transaction cannot be altered without changing every single block, making Bitcoin impervious to fraud. The peer-to-peer network and public ledger eliminate the need for a bank to keep track of the accounts. The decentralized nature of Bitcoin is the basis for much of its growing popularity.

We believe cryptocurrencies could bring down the costs, it is conceivable that blockchain, the underlying technology for cryptocurrencies, makes transactions reliable, fast and cost-effective could make the infrastructure for sending remittances safer and more efficient, that is why we built Bitpeza.

Bitpeza is a simply a platform that enables users to buy bitcoin with naira using any naira debit card (MasterCard, Visa or Verve) and also enables users to exchange their bitcoin to naira, which is credited to their local naira bank accounts instantly. Bitpeza operates under Bitpeza Technology Limited, a registered company with the corporate affairs commission in Nigeria.

Japhet Johnson, CTO & Co-founder of Bitpeza said, “We are subsequently going to include other altcoins that have verified, reliable and sustainable projects/purposes such as Ethereum because we placed utmost priority on building a healthy and risk-free platform for users”.

It started in November 2016 as NairaBitcoins – a cryptocurrency side project and gradually evolved into Bitpeza, which was launched during an event tagged “Creative Capitalism” held on the 24th of March 2019 at Statement hotel, opposite Adamawa house, near federal high court, central business district, Abuja, Nigeria. The event hosted several entrepreneurs, investors and financial advisors including Jerry Mallo, CEO of Bennie Agro Processing Company Ltd, winner of the 2018 National MSME Merit Awards, under the office of the Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osibanjo, GCON and  Hyeladi Haruna (CPA), a business mogul, serial investor and financial adviser.

Bitpeza is focused on educating users on how Blockchain and cryptocurrencies work first, so that users become more enlightened on safety tips and how to engage in sending money to friends, family and business partners via the platform. To achieve this, Bitpeza has currently enabled only bitcoin cryptocurrency and only naira to gradually educate early bird users through avenues such as seminars and Blockchain meetings in Abuja and other parts of Nigeria. The move to enable only bitcoin and naira is also to ensure user support requests are resolved in time.

    Current Features:

    1. Real-time, instant naira payments and purchase of bitcoin including transfers and receipt of bitcoins from any other bitcoin wallet around the world from your mobile phone.
    2. Low charges (less than 5%) on all transactions.
    3. KYC process required for higher limits
    4. USSD, Internet banking and Visa QR payment options available
    5. Users can attach 3 naira settlement bank accounts and attach up to 3 naira debit cards
    6. Real-time customer care service.
    7. Cool, simple, and easy to use

    Upcoming Features:

    1. International payments; ability to pay with international cards with low fees
    2. Settlement to USD, Kenyan and Ghanian local bank accounts
    3. Touch ID login and secret pin login for faster but safe access to your Bitpeza account
    4. FamilyCare; easily send money to your family using a phone number or email address with low unbeatable fees
    5. LearnHub; the Bitpeza education community that will host Blockchain and cryptocurrency courses on proper usage, how Blockchain works, trading cryptocurrencies and other related fields

Bitpeza is currently available of Google Play Store for Android users and will soon be live on App Store for iOS users. It is free to download and start using; it takes less than 2 minutes to get an account set for transactions.

Cryptocurrencies are still in the beginning stages of innovation, and companies have only just begun exploring their potential role in remittance payments. Nengolong Samuel is optimistic this is only the beginning.

“In the near future, we will have virtual money with different qualities and different purposes that are guided by their regions laws. This will make economies more resilient against shocks and will support more equitable and sustainable development, by putting users in the driver seat and reinforcing local economic development.”

  • Nigerians to Enjoy Seamless Mobile payment and Money Transfer with the m-naira app

With the growing level of acceptance and also teething challenges of mobile payment and digital remittance Nigerians face on daily basis, BeepTool, an indigenous tech start-up based in Lagos Nigeria has unveiled m-naira App, designed to bridge the gap in financial inclusion, mobile payment and remittance space. m-naira mobile app has been described by industry watchers and stakeholders as a timely intervention in the mobile payment ecosystem, contributing to the country’s stride towards a full cashless economy.

As of today, Nigerians in the Diaspora send up to $24 billion annually to Nigeria. At an average cost per transaction of 11.89%, Nigerians are spending more than $7 billion in fees. We think we can do better. The m-naira App is designed to be the fastest and most secured way to send and remit money home directly to a bank account or mobile wallet. The m-naira app is also designed for paying bills for family and friends from any part of the world.

Speaking to the media, Mayowa Ihinmikaiye, Co-founder & Business Development manager, BeepTool CIS Limited said “m-naira App is a value sharing and money transfer services platform that interconnects all Nigerian bank accounts, Mobile wallets, and billing systems to deliver instant remittance services to Nigeria from anywhere in the world. Whether you’re supporting your family or doing business in Nigeria, m-naira App makes it convenient and safer to Send, Receive, Pay and save cash instantly from your phone, at a quarter of the cost of your bank or high street money transfer provider.”

m-naira App works directly with service providers to enable remote payment for services such as utilities, healthcare, school tuition, etc. Nigerians living in rural areas are not left out, as we are connecting them to the financial world using Nano-satellites. This will allow Nigerians in areas with poor or no connectivity use the m-naira app to send and receive payment for goods and service he added.

The app has shown a lot of promises. Having features such as; Instant transfer available from any UK, USA and EU approved countries of the world to Nigeria, with 24/7 delivery, real-time updates on your transfer, so you know exactly where your money is and there are no credit or debit card fees.

The mobile app can be downloaded via Google Play Store for now, with the iOS version coming soon or via the website. The m-naira app has a high level of encryption, Know Your Customer (KYC) and security. The developers of the app took it a bit further by helping the unbanked to save money via the m-naira Ajo scheme.  This scheme is a Rotational Savings Club or a group of individuals who save and borrow together in a form of peer-to-peer banking. Group members contribute funds into a pool on a regular basis (daily, weekly or monthly), and then take turns withdrawing funds from the pool. Rotational Savings Clubs are also known as Ajo, Esusu or Otataje in Nigeria.

Pay with m-naira feature is a contactless payment method using a QR code scan from the m-naira app, users can make mobile payments at stores and to merchants.

Blink with m-Naira feature is mobile payment method available in the m-naira app allowing users to make payments (in-store and online) with the use of a one-time password (OTP) pin eliminating the use of ATM cards for shopping online, withdraw and deposit cash at agent locations.  m-naira BLINK can be used by m-naira app users and customers of m-naira app partner banks.  All banks and stores in Nigeria are in the m-naira app network.

We believe strongly that the future of mobile payment in Nigeria and Africa at large will be shaped by fintech companies and mobile apps like m-naira.

For further information on m-naira App, visit the website at https://mnaira.app/ or download the app on the Play store (android devices) or App store (Apple devices) coming soon.

  • Mass Transportation As A Service: Zeno Launches Its First Bus Ride

Mass Transportation As A Service: Zeno Launches Its First Bus Ride

The rapid growth and development of urban settlements globally have propelled the creation of systems to enhance the mobility of people, and there is no going back from it. Albeit inconvenient, municipalities all over the world have one or two public or mass transportation systems in place as a means of preventing the impending doom of doing nothing about it.

In Nigeria, images of people overcrowding a bus station, the unpredictability of timing, and all other attendant challenges these systems pose, have made mass transportation a less attractive service to the people.

This is most pronounced in the megacity of Lagos. An average commuter in Lagos has a lot more to deal with, ranging from harassments from the bus conductors (who are typically called Agberos) to the survival of the fittest hustle to get into a bus when one finally shows up, and the extreme sport of jumping out of the moving bus at their stops. The existing mass transit system has, no doubt, created a negative experience for commuters.

It is on this basis that ‘Zeno’ was born. Zeno, a flagship product from Zeno Digital Limited – an indigenous technology firm in Nigeria – is seeking to change that narrative through organized mass transit while also leveraging shared economies. The Zeno mobile app will inadvertently change the user journey experience of the average commuter. The Zeno bus service is a schedule based schedule-based system that is both time-based and route-based – a 7 am bus leaves exactly by 7 am and heads straight to its destination. It runs via a network of private loading bays all across the city of Lagos. Schedules are available daily for users to book and secure their seats in a bus ride.

The private loading bays have been carefully selected along existing paths to the traditional bus stops. Whilst it immediately shields users and the buses from the harassments and hustle at the traditional bus stops, they are easily located as directions to them are available in the app when a booking has been made. The bus service runs two lines; a blue line with no stops in between and a red line that has only two stops. These stops are simply drop-off points.

A key feature of the Zeno app  isis FDT (Fixed Daily Transit). This allows users with fixed daily transit pattern to pre-book and schedule their rides ahead of time, saving them the last minute last-minute rush of trying to book or completely missing a trip because it was fully booked. With this feature, users get a reminder 15 minutes before pick-up time to either confirm or cancel their booking. Payment is completely cashless; you can pay in-app via your cards or by purchasing a voucher online.

The Zeno app  has  an SOS button on the user and driver apps respectively that can be activated when in danger. This allows the business to intervene immediately if there is an issue of concern and can be further escalated to the nearest security agency if need be. Also, there is real-time video surveillance in the buses to capture events as they happen.

Zeno buses are fully air conditioned and comfortable. Needless to say, the affordability that comes with the shared system is unmatched. The buses also provide the opportunity for individuals to join the scheme as Partners by bringing their buses to the platform. Partners have access to a remote dashboard that shows them how their asset is performing daily while also having a lion share of the revenue.  The Zeno app is available to be downloaded on the Google and iOS app stores respectively.

Today, the 1st of April through the 5th of April, several lucky individuals will get free access to the Zeno experience by getting free rides between the AjahAjah-Lekki-VI axes. You can join the conversation and follow the Zeno experience on social media @Zzenonigeria across all platforms.

  • Collaboration, New Tools and Real Innovation in Nigeria’s Real Estate Industry

Collaboration, New Tools and Real Innovation in Nigeria’s Real Estate Industry

People who believe Africa is truly rising share a similar conviction about the opportunities that abound, and the people’s willingness to harness those opportunities; which often come in the form of challenges. Of course, for great things to happen, the ingredients are often – a problem begging to be solved, someone willing to solve them and access to the right tools and resources to solve them. In Africa, the problems are many and so are the people – all burning with a desire to write their names in the sands of time.

In Africa’s most populous nation, Nigeria, there is an average of 1 entrepreneur in every group of 3 young people you meet; all of them striving daily to make their lives and those of people in their environment better. While their entrepreneurial friends in other continents seem to be tackling more advanced issues and going about their innovator journey differently, they and their colleagues back home are burdened with basic challenges like food, shelter, trade efficiencies and more. For instance, while a population boom looms, a housing deficit looms as well, which implies that a large number of those yet unborn will be faced with homelessness or the inadequacies of the homes that exist.

One of the many gifts today’s innovators have is collaboration. Closely tied with collaboration is the gift of technology. Now more than ever people have the opportunity to learn and adapt efficiencies from anywhere in the world, taking learnings and improving them to suit the experience they want for their users. What this often means for users is that they get the best value for the best price, all thanks to technology and the opportunity to chart their own course, themselves. Let’s explain.

Six years ago, a Nigerian real estate firm opened shop in Nigeria’s capital, setting out to do things quite differently in the hope of solving the huge housing deficit that exists in the country. An easy option for them would’ve been to do real estate like everyone else, but they banked on technology and a collaborative approach to offer people real value for money. Despite the deficit that exists in Nigeria, there are a number of unoccupied homes in Nigeria, owing to the fact that they often don’t meet clients’ tastes or are too pricey for the basic things they offer. To be able to stand out, this real estate firm – Hall 7, gives to-be owners the opportunity to design their own homes, while they employ the very best tools to deliver those dream homes, with an extra techy touch.

In a short while, the firm has been able to deliver three massive projects that currently enjoy huge habitation and strong recommendations. One thing the firm takes pride in is the market it has created for affordable luxury homes. Nigeria has a growing middle class, and it is only smart that premium housing is made available within their financial reach. The way to do this, as Hall 7 has shown over the years, is to provide beautiful homes with usable tech, not pricey ones. The company has been able to clearly define what makes for premium housing and their offer of value over costs speaks to that definition.

Residents of her Bridge Peridot Apartments, one of its luxury projects, enjoy a daily reminder of the classy touch they paid for when they opted for a home there. Each time they step into their home, the lights glow up in a bid to announce their presence and welcome them to their haven. They go on to enjoy more automated responses from their home and the experience of your house being able to regulate itself and try to detect how to make you feel better never gets old and is only possible given how much technology inventions have evolved. As recipients of home automation glory, there are endless possibilities for Hall 7 homeowners, and as always with technology, future homeowners in any Hall 7 projects will find more useful to these tools that the firm has mastered.

Beyond the opportunity to create unique homes with brilliant finishing, new homeowners remain at an advantage considering the number of things which could be done today, that were impossible years back. Hall 7 has a Hexagon Courtyard as part of the Imperial Vista project, which spots two suspended floors, built with the best architectural calculations and complete quality assurance. Before these homes become brick and mortar, their owners get a chance to virtually tour them, have a feel of the future; and in less time than usual, hold their home keys or key cards in their hands. The seamless process and the chance to create these havens side by side with their owners is one reason for the wide acceptability and the continued fulfilled promise of value.

For the team at Hall 7, led by their CEO – Olayinka Braimoh, the future is really boundless and they can’t wait to create something new alongside their next homeowners.

  • Ellae Creative and Figma collaborate to showcase African designers to the world

Two years ago, Ellae Creative Branding Agency launched Designers Arise, a social enterprise to showcase Africa’s top design talents.

On Saturday, March 16, 2019, Ellae ran a Designer’s Arise meetup event tagged “Let’s Talk Digital and Design”, in partnership with the popular design community, Figma Africa. Speaking on the partnership, Figma Africa lead advocate Namnso Ukpanah explained that working with Ellae provided an opportunity for members to get mentorship from experts already working in the design field. Adding that, such collaborations should be encouraged as it means more can be done for the design ecosystem faster in Africa.

Figma Africa is gradually becoming a name associated with web designers across some parts of Africa. So when the opportunity to work with Ellae Creative came, it was highly welcomed. Such collaborations expose the audience to more design concepts, learning materials and mentors with professional experience in their design fields”, says Namnso.

Figma’s vision of fostering a design community in Africa made them an obvious choice for Ellae Creative’s Designer Arise meetup event

Founded in 2011, Ellae has operated as an integrated creative, digital and brand agency with a rapidly growing client base including local and international brands like Exxon Mobil, Sterling Bank, Union Bank, Keystone Bank, Paga, Wakanow, USAID, Citibank, BASF Germany, the Nike Foundation and Google Inc.

Ellae launched Designers Arise as a social enterprise to spotlight the role of design in the African continent through a unique portfolio-based platform and curated design-driven events.

Speaking on the motivation for the launch, the founder, Noella Ekezie says “we would like to bridge the gap between creative talent and opportunities by providing a unique platform for designers to showcase their work and get discovered by the worldwide community.

Last year, they ran a “designathon” (live design contest). The winner of the event, Mr Ifeoluwa Sopeju received 100,000 cash prize and a free trip to Dubai, courtesy of sponsors GTBank and Wakanow.

Winner of Ellae’s Designathon, Mr Ifeoluwa Sopeju

Noella recalls that her foray into the world of design came from the opportunity she had to attend a summer program at a Design school in New York, USA. “I have an engineering background but was able to launch my career as a designer because of the singular opportunity I had to attend a summer program at the Parsons School of Design in New York,  I was able to hone my talents enough to launch and build the world-class brand that Ellae is today and I would like to have that success replicated in our industry by exposing our designers to similar opportunities”, she adds.

The company is looking to curate various design-driven events, meetups, and designathons in collaboration with industry partners and sponsors. In turn, they will offer free access for all designers to learn, network and collaborate on design solutions.

Not resting on its oars, Ellae is looking to launch a creativity conference by October 2019 and are open to sponsorships and partnerships. “We are also looking to launch our inaugural creativity conference in October of this year and are currently seeking partners and sponsors who are aligned to our purpose” says founder Noella Ekezie

  • E-Commerce Company PATRICIA is Introducing The First Stable Coin for Africa

E-Commerce Company PATRICIA is Introducing The First Stable Coin for Africa

Cryptocurrencies are unique instruments in the investing world. They share many characteristics of traditional currencies but can also serve as platforms for more sophisticated financial products.

Judging by their price history alone, cryptocurrencies are easy to dismiss as a bubble. And, indeed, the crypto space is filled with questionable offerings.

However, a discerning look reveals a new financial technology with the capacity to fundamentally change the global economic landscape.

There are different types of cryptocurrency, but these six are among some of the more well-known currencies:

    • Bitcoin (BTC) One of the most commonly known currencies, Bitcoin is considered an original cryptocurrency. …
    • Litecoin (LTC) …
    • Ethereum (ETH) …
    • Ripple (XRP) …
    • Bitcoin Cash. …
    • Ethereum Classic.

Now there is a third bloc…STABLE COIN. Stable coins are cryptos meant to hold a stable value. They are generally pegged to $1USD. In clearer terms, “stable coin” is a term used in cryptocurrency to describe cryptocurrencies meant to hold stable values. For example, Tether (USDT) is a blockchain based asset meant to trade for $1 USD. Tether is a “price-stable cryptocurrency” that is “pegged” to the U.S. dollar.

Stable coin has not particularly enjoyed it’s a fair share of trading especially when it comes to cryptocurrencies in Africa. That gap is what PATRICIA TECHNOLOGIES, Africa’s leading online Gift-card and Cryptocurrency exchange company with branches in Nigeria and Ghana, intends to fill as the e-commerce firm recently announced the introduction of stable coins into the African market for trading.

Speaking at a briefing on the need to introduce to Africa a whole new crypto trading experience, the founder of PATRICIA TECHNOLOGIES Mr Hanu Agbodje expressed his satisfaction with Africa’s technological growth and the continent’s open hands to cryptocurrency trading.

“The media has covered cryptocurrencies for a few years now. Despite these efforts, the true nature of cryptocurrencies remains somewhat murky and undefined. At the moment, cryptocurrencies represent different things to regulators, bankers, and to the general public. We intend to offer Africans something reliable, beneficial and that will boost the IGR of many African countries”, he said.

“Stable coins are important for exchange users, exchange operators, and for the cryptocurrency market as a whole”, he concluded

It’s a fine feather in the cap of PATRICIA, Africa’s first gift card trading company that services customers in Nigeria and Ghana. These Customers who want to trade gift cards and convert crypto-currencies like Perfect Money and Bitcoins for cash trade in a safe, fast, easy and convenient way at the comfort of their homes.

PATRICIA is a platform that thrives on pushing the boundaries of financial innovations by bringing more value to our tables.

  • A Closer Look at the HUAWEI Y7 Prime 2019

Huawei has improved a lot of things in this year’s edition of the Y7 lineup. Y series has historically maintained the legacy of tailored design and strong performance without breaking the bank. HUAWEI Y7 Prime 2019 features the all-new Dewdrop display, a sleeker design, better camera, and many more premium features, all for a phone that is priced at NGN59900.

    Design

HUAWEI Y7 Prime 2019’s display is one of the main attractions once we lay eyes on this phone. It features the premium HUAWEI Dewdrop display with a 6.26-inch screen that provides a high-quality entertainment experience whether the user is using the device for video or gaming purposes.

HUAWEI Y7 Prime 2019 has a premium build quality and holding it in hands feels like having a flagship phone. The device looks super sleek and, even with over six inches of screen, is fairly manageable in the hand. The back of the device is ceramic and is coated with polycarbonate, which is resilient against day-to-day wear and tear. And since this device targets youth, Huawei has it in three energetic colours: Aurora Blue, Midnight Black and Coral Red.

Two dual cameras – 13MP+2MP – are placed at the top corner of the rear on the phone with fingerprint sensor lying on the back, in the central upper part. The overall look of the device is very sleek and features a smart piece of hardware.

    Camera

This phone features three cameras: 16MP front camera and 13MP+2MP dual rear camera. And because people face difficulties when they want to take a selfie – the shutter button might be unreachable, for instance – Huawei has come up with two innovative ways: Gesture Control and Smile Detection. If the user has enabled Gesture Control, closing or opening the palm would send a signal to the front camera to snap a selfie. While in the Smile Detection, users can say “cheese” and the camera will take a selfie.

The primary 13MP rear camera has a wide aperture of f/1.8 with 16 virtual f-stops to provide granular controls over depth of field effects. If users are taking photos in the Aperture Mode, there is a soft bokeh around objects that can be obtained by turning up the aperture, and around crisp image if they lower it.

The quality of pictures taken from both the front and back camera come out looking pretty good in most conditions. Thanks to Master AI, the camera can recognize over 22 different categories and more than 500 scenes. And if it is enabled, the AI can recognize the subject we are pointing the camera to and adjust the parameters to get the best results.

    Other Premium Features

With a 4,000mAh battery, this phone provides a pretty decent battery life. It is enough power to easily get through a day with moderate to heavy usage. Huawei even says this device retains at least 80 per cent of its full capacity even after 700 recharges, which technically means the phone is still reliable even after two years of normal use.

Huawei has equipped the HUAWEI Y7 Prime 2019 with an eight ARM Cortex-A53 high-efficiency cores clocked at 1.8GHz and Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor. It runs with an Adreno 506 GPU with Vulkan support, delivering smooth performance in new top mobile titles.

For quick and easy device unlock, this phone contains the Face Unlock 2.0. It works like this: Users set up their profile following on-screen instructions; the device can authenticate the identity of a user and unlock the device quickly. For extra security, facial credentials are saved locally and never leave the device.

Furthermore, there is also the fingerprint sensor technology, which, Huawei says, allows users to unlock the device in less than 0.37 seconds. The fingerprint sensor also supports multiple functions, such as to take photo/video, stop the alarm, answer a call, browse photos or show the notification panel.

The HUAWEI Y7 Prime 2019 is now available for Pre-Order on Jumia and leading retailers across Nigeria till March 17th. As part of the launch, Huawei will also be gifting customers FREE Bluetooth Speakers or Digital Weight Meters from Miniso for a limited time.

With this smartphone, users would get a beautiful looking display, good performance and excellent front camera and dual-setup cameras on the back. These are great features to be added to a phone that is priced at NGN59900.
