  • Disruptive Innovation: 3 Key Takeaways from #InterswitchConnect 2017

Brett King, John Chaplin, Mitchell Elegbe, GMD Interswitch and Akeem Lawal, DCEO, Interswitch

In today’s business world, especially in the tech industry, disruption is one of the most over-used words. From discussions involving Uber to industry analysis of the rise of Netflix, the term “disruption” has become a recurring buzzword.

However, as the word has taken on a life of its own, there are bound to be misconceptions. The most common being the widespread confusion of the word with Innovation. Tony Robbins rightly opined in a recent blog post that “because everyone wants to seem on the bleeding edge of progress, everything that seems remotely innovative gets called “disruptive.”

While Innovation is closely related to disruption, they are not the same. However, it is not exactly black and white. While it is possible to be innovative without being disruptive, it is very unlikely that one would be disruptive without innovating. So what then is real disruption? What drives disruptive innovation and how can it be leveraged in different sectors of the economy, especially in facilitating seamless, secure and effective payment transactions?

To answer these questions and more, Nigeria’s leading integrated digital payments and Commerce Company, Interswitch Group invited the King of Disruption himself, Brett King to speak at the first ever edition of Interswitch Connect. With an overarching theme of “The Digital Transformation Imperative: Innovative Evolution or Disruptive Innovation” Interswitch Connect brought together the entire digital financial ecosystem including leading innovators and OEMs in the financial services industry “to discuss, debate and evaluate the future of transactions.”

A brief introduction on Brett King

Brett King is a futurist, an Amazon bestselling author, an award winning speaker, and radio host. He has advised the Obama administration on the Future of Banking, and has spoken in 50 countries in the last 3 years. Brett focuses on how technology disrupts businesses, changes behaviour and influences society.

He is also the CEO and Founder of Moven, a $200m mobile bank start-up, with the world’s first smart bank account. Moven’s app is used around the globe with over a million users. His radio show, Breaking Banks, is the first global show and podcast on FinTech, and has grown to be the most popular with an audience in 140 countries/ 3.6 million listeners.

    Brett King

Brett’s session at the conference was a very insightful one as it not only helped participants at the event better understand the concept of disruptive innovation but also pointed out ways by which entire industries can be radically turned on its head with the introduction of a Disruptive Innovation model.

Here are three key takeaways on disruption from the event:

    1. First Principle Thinking drives disruption, not thinking by analogy

First Principles Thinking is focused on breaking a situation down into its fundamental pieces and then putting them back together in a more effective way that serves your purposes. Many great thinkers including inventor Johannes Gutenberg, military strategist John Boyd, the great philosopher Aristotle, Tesla and SpaceX founder, Elon Musk, have used this approach successfully. In contrast, reasoning by analogy is building knowledge and solving problems based on prior assumptions, beliefs and widely held ‘best practices’ approved by

Many great thinkers including inventor Johannes Gutenberg, military strategist John Boyd, the great philosopher Aristotle, Tesla and SpaceX founder, Elon Musk, have used this approach successfully. In contrast, reasoning by analogy is building knowledge and solving problems based on prior assumptions, beliefs and widely held ‘best practices’ approved by majority of people.

Brett King says true disruption occurs when one tackles a challenge from scratch. He asks: “If we were to do things differently from scratch, what would it look like?” Brett believes breaking down a complex situation into its simplest and most basic form, and creating new solutions from scratch is key to disruption.

    2. Artificial intelligence and robotics will drive disruption

With the advent of smart factories and smart infrastructure, manufacturing will no longer be dominated by human beings. In healthcare, the emergence of real-time diagnosis and gene editing technologies will further disrupt the industry.

New technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and robotic process automation will also turn the banking ecosystem on its head, disrupting the way people bank and the manner in which institutions deliver financial services.

Brett King believes the bank of the future will largely depend on these technologies to thrive, as they can potentially increase efficiency, decrease costs and enhance the customer experience. They will radically disrupt banking as we know it and financial institutions that refuse to adopt AI and robotics on time will be left behind.

    3. Mobile and Internet plays a major role in innovation and disruption

Some of the biggest disruptions across different industries have been tied to the growing Internet and mobile penetration.

Mobile technology has created enormous value for people in Africa enabling them to do things that would have seemed impossible before now. For instance, the smartphone has impacted different industries including media and banking. With mobile penetration across Africa standing at over 90%, the reach of financial services has expanded to consumers even in very remote areas.

A clear example of this disruptive potential of mobile technology is the M-Pesa mobile payment service in Kenya, which constitutes more than a third of all financial transactions in Kenya.

Brett King asserted that the growing internet and mobile penetration in Africa will foster greater financial inclusion and coverage of the unbanked, just as it would continue to disrupt other sectors of the economy.

    Rounding off

The Disruptive Innovation model has come to stay. As rightly pointed out by Brett King, the banking and financial services industry is still playing catch-up due to a lack of first principle thinking.

He called on stakeholders to think of banking as an experience and not just a collection of products. To achieve this, banks have to become data companies as they will only be as good as the data they have and can effectively use in creating such customer experiences.

He also believes that for real disruption to occur in the financial services sector, bank products and services need to be redesigned for the automated world and to achieve this, banks need to either partner a fintech company, acquire a fintech company or copy and replicate the technology itself.

Of the three options, Brett says partnering fintech companies remains the best approach.

  • What To Expect When You Buy The New Gionee A1 lite Smart Phone

What To Expect When You Buy The New Gionee A1 lite Smart Phone

If you have a thing for selfie phones or smartphones with big batteries then you must have heard of Gionee A1 Lite. The Gionee A1 Lite is aimed at selfie lovers and features a 20MP front facing camera, you also get a 4000mAH battery on the device. When the device launched, the question on everyone’s mind was, is the camera worth the hype? Is it worth the price? Well we did some digging and here’s what people are saying:

According to Gionee, the USP of the A1 Lite is the 20MP front facing camera. Which a lot of users have praised. One user said images look good under poor lighting.

We also found a user online who claims to have used both the A1 and the A1 lite. He believes both devices have the same setup, but the image quality on the A1 lite is lower. Another user commented on how he loves taking pictures with his family members, while another said it was the best phone he ever owned.

Another user talked about how the camera captures a decent amount of details. A lot of female users are very happy with the A1 lite, they say the A1 lite takes beautiful images and their selfies have lesser blemishes and a smoother skin tone.

There were no complaints with the design of the device. Critics believe the Gionee A1 Lite is ergonomic and feels well built. We are not a big fan of the design of the A1 lite, we feel it is not as pretty as the A1.

No complaints with the battery, users say the 4000mAH battery lasts long. Position of the fingerprint scanner, power button and volume rocker is just right and all three work quite well. Users are not too happy about the 720p display, a lot of users see it as a let-down. A lot of mixed feeling around the performance of the A1 lite, some users believe Gionee could have done better, while others believe a 3GB RAM does the work perfectly.

For the most part, the Gionee A1 lite is a slam dunk. It’s brilliantly designed, budget friendly, has an excellent camera and has a huge battery that lasts. Long story short, if you’re looking for a new phone, this should be at the top of your list.

If you have the Gionee A1 lite Smart phone, share your experience with us in the comments. If you haven’t experienced it, visit http://www.gioneeonline.ng/a1-lite/

  • FG Partners Huawei to Create Smart Cities in Nigeria.

FG Partners Huawei to Create Smart Cities in Nigeria.

In order to reshape the way public service is provided and managed,‎ the Federal Government on Tuesday, 8th of August 2017 said it would partner Huawei to create smart cities in Nigeria.

Minister of communications, Adebayo Shittu, stated this in Abuja, at a Smart Cities two-day multi-stakeholders international summit, sponsored by Huawei, in collaboration with Smart Cities Nigeria, Ministry of Communications, Ministry of Works, Housing and Power, Federal Capital Territory Administration and Ministry of Environment.

‎According to Shittu, “More people now have access to smart phones. Experts said that smart phones users in Africa will increase from 75 million in the first quarter of 2016 to 512 million 2018.

“Smart Cities would promote open data is one of the advantages of smart city. Smart City helps to manage government resources. It also helps to get more revenue for the government.

“Nigeria is a journey of greatness and together we will arrive at the destination of our dreams. In order to encourage competition among States and Local governments, the Ministry of Communications would soon launch the Smart Cit‎y competition, this is to encourage them to take a bolder steps go the level of digital technology.

Barrister Adebayo Shittu commended Huawei Technologies Nigeria Limited on their continuous support in the development of ICT in Nigeria and also urged other stakeholders to partner with the ministry to create smart cities in Nigeria.

Managing Director Huawei Technologies Nigeria Limited, Mr. Tank Li, said the development and widespread application of digital technologies had transformed lives in a profound way.

He noted, “Data flow and economic development have become the big trends of our time; digital economy is a new form of economy in which everyone can share.

“Digital economy refers to an economic system in which digital technologies are widely applied, revolutionizing the whole economic environment and activities. Digital economy is also a brand new socio-political and economic system in which all information and commercial activities are digitised.

“Businesses, consumers and governments do business via the Internet, allowing for rapid business growth. Digital economy focuses on commodities and services whose production, distribution, and sales all rely on digital technologies.

“We project in the near future a digital economy that will bring about enormous changes in society. We simply have no way of knowing how deep and far-reaching these changes will be. However, we can be sure of one thing, that ICT will be the cornerstone of this digital economy.

“In our philosophy, the digital economy has three defining characteristics: All things will have the ability to sense, all things will be connected, and all things will be intelligent.

“The existence of these three defining characteristics depends entirely on advanced ICT. In an intelligent world, devices will play the role of the “feelers” in an all-sensing environment. Networks will connect everything, and the cloud will be the source of intelligence behind all things. These three elements form a synergetic architecture of devices, information pipes, and the cloud.”

He said, “This fourth industrial revolution is going to impact people’s lives in unimaginable ways and this will happen through the convergence of the cyber and physical worlds. The Internet of Things is automatic ‘smart’ communication between objects, through the internet.

“McKinsey Global Institute says in a report last year that IoT could have a total economic impact of $4 trillion to $11 trillion a year by 2025. IoT pervades many areas of life.

“For example, inside Nestle Malaysia Bhd’s headquarters in Petaling Jaya, there is a room with a huge screen covering an entire wall that tracks key words related to the company’s products on the Internet.

“The sales force social studio is where Nestle’s Malaysian digital acceleration team, which was set up in early 2014, analyses consumer trends specifically for the company’s social media campaigns and market research.

“But this is only one aspect of IoT, another is efficiency. The data collected is used to make businesses more efficient and better able to react.

“Nigerian government has realized the potential of its digital economy. Unlocking the dividends of digital economy becomes imperative in the face of dwindling oil revenue with increasingly pressure on the economy evident in budgets deficit, infrastructural deficit, high unemployment rate, harsh business environment and corruption amongst others.

“Federal government is about to launch the “Smart Nigeria Digital Economy Project” that aims to solve efficiency problems and create leapfrog opportunities in the economy for the next 10 years.

“Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Okechukwu Enelamah said the financial services within the country’s digital economy would add $88 billion to the gross domestic product (GDP) and create more than 3 million jobs within 10 years. The potential gains of the digital economy will manifest in digital accounts, payments, mobile money, health and educational services along with other sectors of the economy.

“I fully agree with the fact that, ICT-enabled technologies and solutions has the huge potential to serve as a major accelerator of the vision of Smart Nigeria Digital Economy and its sustainable development goal.

“As a global leading ICT solution provider, Huawei’s products and solutions have been deployed in over 170 countries and regions, serving more than one third of the world’s population.”

  • Remita Mobile App now on Android and iOS

Remita Mobile App now on Android and iOS

SystemSpecs has released the full version of its Remita Mobile Application, for both Android and Apple users, to help individuals and businesses manage their accounts across multiple banks, settle bills of various kinds and generally stay in control of their finances.

The release of the full version of the app is coming after its beta version was released on the Android platform in March of this year. With the full release of Remita Mobile App on Google playstore and Apple app store, millions of Nigerians with accounts in any commercial bank can easily access their account balances on one screen, conveniently make and receive payments across various bank accounts, and settle bills to several merchants within the private and public sectors from their mobile phone.

An exciting feature of Remita App is that it allows users, whether individuals or businesses, to request payments from anyone in style. At a click, they can simply share a QR code via email, WhatsApp and other social media platforms. All the payer would need to do is to snap the QR code from their smartphone or tap their device against the biller’s to complete transactions.

For SME owners, they can easily switch between their business and personal profiles and also translate their existing physical process flows into a virtual form. As a result individuals, who for instance play different roles in various organisations as transaction approvers, would be able to play such roles using Remita Mobile App from their mobile phone – without needing to make physical appearances at work.

“Remita App places so much power in the hands of users by making it much easier and faster for them to manage their accounts across various banks and settle bills, on-the-go,” said John Obaro, Managing Director of SystemSpecs.

“It is particularly exciting that so much can be done from the comfort of their mobile device, without needing any other mobile app, any token, or visiting any bank branch.”

In addition to the features earlier made available on the app during its beta release, users of Remita Mobile App will now enjoy a number of new features which would enable them to seamlessly make payments for others, view their payslip, and manage their business and personal accounts.

“As an organisation, we strongly believe that there is no ceiling to innovation. As a result, we are always working to surpass expectations and increase the ease experienced by individuals and businesses. Among other benefits, the power to make more financially intelligent decisions is now at their fingertip,” said Adédèjì Olówè, Executive Director, Products and Services, at SystemSpecs.

The security of access and transactions on the platform has been prioritised through standard industry security measures as well as specific security layers built into the app. Such measures include Personal Security Number, fingerprint authentication and One-Time Password (OTP) verification.

  • Visa and leading banks bring mobile payments to Nigeria

Visa and leading banks bring mobile payments to Nigeria

Global payments leader Visa has launched mVisa, its innovative mobile payment service, in Nigeria. The solution is being rolled out across Africa.

Consumers from Visa’s Nigerian partner banks can pay with any mobile phone wherever mVisa is accepted. mVisa transactions are processed via Visa’s global network, VisaNet, applying the same scale, security and reliability as any other Visa transaction.

From today, Diamond Bank, Fidelity Bank and First Bank will offer their customers the convenience of mVisa through their mobile banking apps. Access Bank, Ecobank, United Bank for Africa and Zenith Bank will go live with mVisa in the coming weeks. Nigeria is the first market to provide customers the convenience of making cross-border payments using mVisa.

Speaking at the launch event, Andrew Torre, President for Visa Sub-Saharan Africa said, “Small and medium merchants in particular, no longer have to invest in expensive point of sale infrastructure as mVisa gives them the freedom to accept payments in a convenient, secure and affordable manner that their customers trust.”

“We are very excited to see more and more merchants come on board every day as they begin to understand the benefits that mVisa brings, including real-time notifications of payments and access to sales and transactions history. We have campaigns lined up for the coming months to support our merchants and encourage new customers to experience mVisa at various locations across Nigeria.” Torre said

“Today, Visa and its financial institution partners are, for the first time, providing the benefits of digital commerce to potentially everyone, everywhere across Nigeria and the African continent, bringing millions more people into the formal financial system.”

Diamond Bank’s Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Uzoma Dozie, stated that the launch of mVisa is timely and aligns with the cashless policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the digital growth strategy of the bank.

‘’With mVisa, Diamond Bank has raised the bar for cashless banking in Nigeria by maintaining its leadership role in driving digital financial revolution in the country. Our customers will be able to make everyday payments simply by using their mobile phones. I think mVisa is the biggest thing that has happened in the industry.”

Fidelity Bank CIO, Gbolahan Joshua, said: “mVisa is an innovative service that merges the everyday mobile phone to a payment solutions plan that is easy for our customers to use.

Our account holders will appreciate the convenience mVisa offers.”

FirstBank’s Group Head, E-Business, Chuma Ezirim said that the Bank would continue to embrace innovation to deliver superior services in the best way possible to its customers. ”Partnering with Visa to deliver mVisa is part of the FirstBank’s strategy to deliver reliable, secure and convenient payment options to its esteemed customers. It further promotes our digital approach by delivering omni-channel experience to all our customers while enhancing our existing offerings”, he reiterated.

mVisa is already accepted at hundreds of locations across the country with many more merchants joining the ecosystem over the new few months. These merchants include DSTV, Konga.com, Genesis and IMAX Cinemas, Hard Rock Café, Quickteller and Spar.

The mVisa implementation in Nigeria benefited from the Visa Developer Platform, which allowed all partner banks the ability to integrate the mVisa APIs directly into their mobile banking apps. While rolling out a new solution with a bank typically can take a very long time from development to implementation and testing, utilizing the Visa Developer Platform interface reduced the time taken significantly. This helped to speed up the number of banks who have been able to roll out the mVisa solution in Nigeria.

mVisa is now live in Nigeria, Kenya, India, Rwanda and Egypt with plans to launch across Africa.

  • HUB8 Launches In Nigeria

    HUB8 Launches In Nigeria

Considering the fact that thousands of Nigerians are taking their businesses online, many want to know which web hosting company is the best in the country. Many Nigerian bloggers and entrepreneurs have hosted their business websites on several web companies in Nigeria and gotten their fingers burnt in the process, but it doesn’t have to be this way anymore. It is now time to switch to a new web company setting up shop in the country and enjoy the best of internet possibilities with ease.

HUB8 is the latest entrant into the Nigerian web space. It is a global web hosting company that has just launched in the country. HUB8 is an international web company in major countries of the world and recently launched in Nigeria with a dedicated website for Nigerian customers. Reliable and fast with 99.9% uptime, TechCabal caught up with HUB8’s Regional Manager for Emerging Markets, Dmitry Deniskin, for a brief chat and the following interview tells it all.

    Can we meet you?
Yes. My name is Dmitry Deniskin. I am the regional manager for HUB8, the global web hosting brand that just opened shop in Nigeria. I am Russian, but considering that Russia and Nigeria have a lot in common in terms of population and the entrepreneurial movement, my team has decided to launch in Nigeria and be the Growth Partner we’ve always been to online entrepreneurs everywhere.

Can you tell us about HUB8, your web hosting company?
HUB8 is a Growth Partner for businesses all over the world. We are as real in Nigeria as we are in Russia and other parts of the world. We are basically into domains, hosting, and websites. Our core business is putting individuals and businesses on the internet, and giving online presence and visibility to businesses everywhere.

How is HUB8 different from the existing web companies in Nigeria?
Our web hosting experience, powerful resources and distinctive products set us apart from the pack. We are launching with major web offerings that no businesses can resist or do without. For instance, we have a domains registration product that enables you to register your domains for cheap; we have an intuitive visual website builder that helps you with website creations; we have hundreds of premium designed interactive WordPress themes to give you elegant website themes from Themify.net; and our cPanel web hosting infrastructure is powered by SSDs and fully compatible with CMSs such as Joomla, WordPress, Drupal, Magento and several others in the industry.

How much does each of these web package cost?
That is where we are different from the others. You can obtain almost all of our products for FREE under our Free Plan offerings; and to sweeten the deal, you can enjoy free website backups, ultra-fast SSD disks, and non-existent ads under our FREE HOSTING PLAN. You may however have to pay a token as low as N350 for domain registration under our domain promos or even use your own domain with our free hosting without any initial fees.

And for how long will your Free Hosting Plans remain free?
As your Growth Partner, we intend to keep our free hosting plans free forever to enable you run your internet businesses with ease and more profits! But things might change in the future and new users may be restricted from accessing several features of our offerings – that is why it is BEST for every serious person to register with us right away. And then, as your business grows, you can switch to any of our paid plans.

But what is the catch if you offer Nigerians free website plans?
There is no catch at all. It is our way of encouraging people to bring their businesses online. As your Growth Partner, our business model is that we must grow together with our customers. So we are committed to our “No ads. 100% Free Hosting” vow. The storage space under the free plans offer is however limited to 500 MB per website and bandwidth is limited to 100 GB per month. The truth is that these parameters are even more than enough for e-commerce websites, not to mention personal blogs and corporate websites.

What are the domain extensions you have for Nigerian businesses?
We have over 500 domain extensions for all business names. Our domain product caters to all niche categories across all industries – technology, business, news, sports, health, science, government, politics, arts, and blogs among others. We have .com, .xyz, .pw, .online, and .site among several others; and we are looking into adding domain extensions such as .ng and .com.ng to our portfolio. In fact, we have registered hub8.ng for our Nigerian users in adherence to NiRA’s efforts to promote national domain for Nigerians. The .ng and .com.ng domain extensions tell search engines that websites are domiciled within the country and this boosts SEO for the websites.

What payment options do you have for those who want to switch to a paid service?
If anyone wants to switch from our free plans to our paid plans in order to access more dynamic features, you can use your VISA and Mastercard to make payments. And to prove that we are actually on ground for Nigerian customers, we have partnered with Flutterwave to accept payments from Nigerian banks such as Access Bank, Diamond Bank, GTBank, Zenith and UBA. You can equally use your Verve cards to make payments for domains and hosting among other products we have on offer.

Do you have an office in Nigeria?
Yes, we have a staff on ground in Lagos and we look forward to setting up offices in other  Nigerian cities as soon as we have more customers from within Nigeria. However, our core team at HUB8 works as a distributed team and with the aids of technology and digital innovations, we are able to provide local support to every customer anywhere in the world within minutes of getting in touch with us.

What is your last word for Nigerians?
We want to encourage all Nigerians to tap into the potentials of the internet by moving their businesses online. With an average of about 190 million people, Nigerians have the education and the technological resources and the digital innovation to make more money online. You only need to partner with us at HUB8 as your Growth Partner to get you where you want to be in the internet world. We are cheap, we are fast, and we are globally reliable. Thank you!

  • Tapping Into The Right Content Opportunities

Content consumption in the mobile industry has continued to witness a dramatic rise since the inception of Value Added Services. Despite some reports of a slowdown based on economic factors, user demand for content based services is still on the rise. One undeniable fact is the exponential growth in smartphone usage as mobile technology has taken over various segments of the African market thereby unlocking new opportunities. Mobile phone users have become encouraged to view content as a source of information, update on new trends and also solution to everyday problems. Caller Tunes is one of the most successful content based value added services which is widely being used all over the continent. Content has continued to penetrate across the mobile and digital ecosystem.

Tapping into the right content has become an issue of growing concern in the VAS industry due to the consistent demand for content based services. Taking into cognizance the African market, entertainment VAS is widely consumed because it is designed for mass appeal and leisure time compared to other sectors such as the Mobile Commerce VAS. To counter this difference and help bridge the gap, content are content providers should focus on providing content related to other aspects of the Telco industry that will be of increased value to consumers.

There are various aspect of modern day technologies in the IT world that have become an open door for the content providers in the VAS industry. Some of these aspects which should be explored and integrated in contents are IOT, big data and artificial intelligence. IOT has become the next phase of modern technology whereby the internet uses content and technologies made available to provide solutions. Big data is a rave in the moment, using user analysis, behavior and streamlined information to provide value to users. Artificial intelligence (AI) has witnessed a surge making it more possible to integrate machine learning. Another aspect of technology that should be further explored and integrated into VAS content is Location based solutions, as they will provide increased value for users.

Key factors to be considered when integrating and developing VAS content are consumers’ needs and wants, fun and enjoyability, affordability, time saving, convenient use, ease of access to information and lastly a comparative analysis of customer behavior. These would serve as a guideline for content developers in a bid to provide value and solve problems. Despite these considerations, it is also advisable to key into multilingualcontent varieties which will afford users the flexibility to access content in different languages.

It is not enough to develop VAS content; acquiring and retaining subscribers is equally as important. Promotion is key to acquiring subscribers to content platforms that deliver requisite value. In retaining subscribers, it is paramount forcontent providers to maintain a standard of delivering timely and relevant content of great quality to their subscribers.

Finally, in as much as content based services have become the rave of the moment, more emphasis should be laid on providing an even playing ground for every sector of the VAS industry; new opportunities that modern technology in IT has provided should be inculcated in providing relevant content to solve users’ practical recurrent problems in a more flexible manner.

  • A Sneak Peek at ALAT

You can hardly get any work done these days without stumbling on an ad informing you about an app promising to do something no one has ever done before. It’s either they are promising to make you feel a certain way or claiming the app lets you cook jollof rice with the touch of your finger tip. I got an email about something called ALAT and, like most people who were sadly led to believe that we could open accounts on Facebook, I thought to myself: “Africa’s first digital bank indeed.”

I must say well done to the people at ALAT and Wema Bank for this. “I don get ALAT” and here are 3 reasons why you should.

It Took About 5 Minutes. Really.

Yes, this is true. All I did was type in my BVN on the app, take a selfie and also take pictures of my ID card and utility bill. I thought the utility bill was going to be a hitch initially but I remembered I had a utility bill in my outbox from the last time I tried to open an account at a branch of another bank. The lady at this bank called me two days later saying the account couldn’t be opened because the photocopy of the bill I brought wasn’t clear so I had to send her another scanned copy. Thank goodness those times are gone. I haven’t seen anything like it before. 5 minutes and I had a transaction ready bank account on ALAT.

Free Debit Card Delivered to My House

Even after the account was opened I was still skeptical until I stumbled on the request for a card feature. You would think that this would come at a cost since they were delivering customized debit cards to my house but it was actually free. The design options were so cool I had to send screenshots to my friends to help me pick the best card. They didn’t let me pick the name to be written on the card, though, but the card was delivered to my house in two days and I activated it on the app instantly.

    It Helps Me Achieve Goals

I kept exploring and I tell you it does everything. Internet subscription, bills, scheduled transfers, TV subscription and even airtime purchase. It also has a feature called “Goals” that actually helps me achieve my goals! This app was really created in my best interest because this singular feature is the only reason I have multiple bank accounts to begin with. It lets you put in your goals, how much they cost and determine how much you intend to save towards achieving them either daily, weekly or monthly. When it breaks it down to the little figures, it makes you feel like you can achieve anything in this life. You can also predetermine if you want to touch this money before the goal is complete or if you want to lock up completely.

Needless to say, this app has become my personal favorite, only second to the gram, and it makes me feel all type of ways. Beautiful and easy to use. Yes, ALAT still needs a little work to be done as it still has some bugs but the good news is their tech team is very responsive and are consistently updating the app to make it better. I have only one question for the people at ALAT – when are we going to start cooking jollof with ALAT?
