  • NOWNOW: Ditch your wallet, take your mobile money!

Next time you head out for the day, leave your wallet at home. Seriously. Toss your valuables and phone in a side pocket of your bag and get on out the door. Why waste precious bag space and time when those moments that get you through your day — a quick airtime recharge, paying your electricity bills or paying for breakfast at your favourite cafe — can all now be completed, not by grabbing your wallet, but by reaching for your phone?

It is estimated today that more than 2 billion people around the world are unbanked, meaning they have no access to a bank account or safe place to store their money. These individuals have to rely on cash or informal financial services which are often unsafe, inconvenient and expensive.

However, one common ground shared between banked and unbanked societies across sub-Saharan Africa is the rise in mobile phone ownership with almost 76 percent of the population having a mobile phone subscription, which has led to developments around the potential and need for an affordable payment system, now called mobile money.

The advent of mobile money has enabled quicker, cheaper and more reliable money transfersover greater distances, but what does this mean for a potential subscriber?

Here is a brief overview of mobile money and its benefits to subscribers.

    What is mobile money?

Mobile money is a form of electronic money that allows you to conduct financial transactions using your mobile phone. It involves the use of a mobile phone in order to transfer funds between banks or accounts, deposit or withdraw funds, pay bills. or make purchases.

So far, there are two models of mobile money implementation in Nigeria – the operator branded and provider branded mobile money services.

    • Operator based mobile money: which is a value added service offered by a network operator to its subscribers.
    • Provider based mobile money: services are those offered by companies licensed by CBN to offer mobile money services.

Operator based mobile money services do not have mobile money licenses but through partnerships with licensed mobile money providers, financial institutions, payment processors, and merchants they can offer mobile money to their subscribers. Provider based mobile money services, on the other hand, are licenced and either run an independent platform (usually through an app or device) or partner with numerous networks to roll out mobile money services.

    How does mobile money work?

Mobile Money transforms your mobile phone into an electronic wallet (e-wallet). You can store funds in your mobile e-wallet for making electronic payment for goods and services and also transfer funds to family and friends. This reduces your need for cash when shopping and might help you handle cash with the daily limits of the CBN. You can also receive money on your mobile money e-wallet which can be funded via authorised agents of your mobile money service, partner banks and networks of your mobile money service, transfers from your ATM/Debit cards, or any other funding method offered by your service provider. Once funded you can securely and conveniently use your mobile money to send money to family and friends, buy airtime of any network, Pay bills like DSTV, GOTv, PHCN bills, etc.

What are the benefits of using mobile money?

Mobile banking offers many benefits, such as:

    • Ease of Use: Most mobile money services allow users to buy things in shops or online, pay for goods and services, transfer money from almost anywhere, pay bills and school fees, and top-up mobile airtime, anytime and anywhere.
    • Banking without walls: Mobile money services go a long way to addressing the needs of the unbanked, underbanked, and the unhappily banked, thereby reducing the need for long queues in banks.
    • Accessibility: Mobile money has proved better at reaching areas where banks or standard money transfer services may not. Mobile money users can receive international money transfers from family and friends who send using mobile remittance services.
    • Convenient Savings: The ability to save money and be able to cash-out whenever needed is a mobile money benefit that reduces the need for bulky physical cash.
    • Financial Control: Mobile money services charge lesser than standard transfer services, and in some cases eliminate the need for transaction charges completely.

    How safe is mobile money?

Similar to a bank account, funds held in a mobile money account are protected by local financial regulations. Mobile money providers and partners are required to check the identity of their users – making it much harder for fraudsters and criminals to use these services illegally.

Mobile money services store a record of every transaction and account balance, so even if the phone or SIM card is lost or stolen, the user’s money is kept safe. Additionally, transactions require some sort of identification in the form of a secret pin.

  • MTN Mobile Electricity: Just the right gift!

My son recently bought me a gift, an amazing one I have to be honest, and it means everything to me. As a retiree, there isn’t much to do around these days except to relax and catch up with friends when I can. Since I’m an indoor person by nature, power has always been a constant worry for me. I lived abroad for some time and I know what it means to have constant electricity.

My children know this too well and have severally replaced my generators. Despite the supply of power, constant repairs and endless noise come with it. Add the occasional fuel scarcity to the equation and you have a perfect chaotic scenario.

You can then imagine my joy when my eldest son, Seun sent me what I consider my best gift of this year yet, a solar powered electricity device, Lumos Mobile Electricity. For one thing, the lack of noise while I’m using the device delights me. I mean, I get an alternative source of power that doesn’t come with noise? Absolutely amazing!

And the juicy part is, I get to recharge the device with my mobile phone. With just N200 airtime daily subscription on my MTN line since it is powered by MTN, I get a steady supply of power. My heart prays for my son fervently! I’m proud of him and kudos to MTN and Lumos for this solution. What can I do better than to recommend this to anyone desirous of getting steady power supply.

Trust me, this device solves my power needs!

  • Let’s Talk about Security Threats at the Oracle Security Summit 2017 happening in Lagos this April

  • What insurance do you need and why?

In the quest to fulfil our daily needs and face the demands of our busy lives, we often forget that life is short and tragedy can strike at any time. Sure, when we get into bad situations, we can rely on family, friends or ‘nice strangers’ but insurance is probably the best avenue to provide financial relief. What insurance to buy, where to buy it and how to choose the right insurer are frequently asked questions which can make it sound complicated.

While most people have heard of insurance, they generally do not understand how much they really need to have some form of insurance cover or another. When it comes to the necessity of getting insurance, people only think of car insurance and end it there, not considering the value of having other areas of their lives insured against eventualities.

The biggest misconceptions are seen through comments such as “It’s too expensive,” “I’ll never use it,” “Nothing will happen to me” or “God is all the insurance I need.” This is very short-sighted as we all know good people around us who have been struck by difficult life events, whether it’s a car accident or a stroke, and in the bigger scheme of things, you would be denying yourself and your family a chance to recover in the case of an eventuality.

To that end, whether you’re planning for your retirement, the future of your loved ones or putting money aside for unexpected events, having adequate insurance cover is as essential as the life you’re living. Here are a few considerations you should make to help you secure the assurance of a successful and worry free life that having insurance can give you.

    Which insurance should you buy?

Nowadays, it is possible to be insured against all sorts of risks. But, it may not be necessary to cover yourself against all risks. Getting the insurance you need is as simple as identifying what is important to you and what you want to protect. You probably don’t need to spend a lot of money to get insurance, but you do need to make sure you have adequate coverage against common eventualities.

    • Car: Imagine you get into an accident with another vehicle. Every car insurance protects you against damages and injuries you cause to others (the technical name is third party insurance). To also have your own car fixed by the insurer, you need comprehensive insurance. An added bonus of buying comprehensive is that you get your car fixed even if you are hit by an uninsured driver.
    • Home: We all know of electrical faults, high voltage or air conditioning units causing fire in a house. Buying home insurance is a great idea as it pays for repairs or replacement if you suffer loss or damage to your home or contents. This will save you from having to buy a new tv, fridge or computer.
    • Health: You should leave nothing to chance where yours and your loved ones’ health is concerned. To be fair, most people can pay out of pocket for routine illness but when it comes to serious trauma or illnesses that require surgery, hospitalisation or foreign treatment, the costs can quickly rise up. Having insurance could save your life.
    • Life: What would happen to your family if tragedy struck and you are not here anymore to provide for them? Who will pay for your son’s well-being or your daughter’s school fees? The law requires your employer to provide group life cover. That cover will pay about 3 times your annual salary or more to your listed beneficiaries. Some employers don’t so make sure you check. If you are self-employed, consider getting life insurance; it is not that expensive and you can even use it as a saving mechanism.
    • Travel: Pays for repairs or replacement if you suffer loss or damage to your belongings. Travel insurance also pays for financial loss if there are delays or cancellations on your ticket and for costs related to personal accident while overseas including medical and repatriation expenses.

    Where can you get insurance?

Once you have decided that paying out of your pocket is no longer the best option and you require the reliability and assurance that having an insurance cover can give you, it’s time to begin shopping for convenient insurance options.

In today’s world, you can buy insurance through a professional middle man/woman (agent or broker), by visiting an insurer’s office or going online. If your insurance needs are simple; just a car, for example, you can safely buy a policy online on your own, but if you’re buying health or anything that’s unique – you’re generally better off finding a good agent or broker to advise you and help you find the right coverage.

Agents represent a particular company and are therefore under pressure to sell that company’s insurance products, which may not be the most competitive. Because brokers are not allied to any one company, but can instead explore a whole range of products and services available on the market, they are best placed to offer tailored advice in your best interest.

    How to choose your insurer

Because insurance is a product where quality matters but it’s very important to find you the right policy and the right insurer to suit your needs.

Here are tips on picking a good insurer:

    • Look for insurers with a good reputation of settling claims fast.
    • Seek only cash rich insurers that won’t fold up with your money.
    • Get personal recommendations from family, friends and colleagues.
    • Look out for testimonials & reviews on discussion boards, websites and social media.
    • Check the license status of providers from State/Federal Insurance regulatory body.
    • Inquire directly from agents or brokers. Don’t be shy to ask questions like:
      • How long have you been in business?
      • If I have a loss and need to file a claim, how will you assist me?
      • If I cancel the policy mid-term, will there be a refund?
    • Compare prices with us at Compare Insurance, we vet insurers and are there for you when claiming.

  • Skip The Noisy Generators, You Can Now Have Uninterrupted Power With An Mtn Sim

Skip The Noisy Generators, You Can Now Have Uninterrupted Power With An Mtn Sim

Yes you read that right, this is not a ruse. When it comes to electricity in Nigeria there are 3 bosses we all rely on but there is a new boss in town and it is the most affordable, safe and convenient yet! First, let’s run through the current bosses.

Boss 1 – The Almighty PHCN

No matter what class of the socio-economic class you belong to, everyone secretly has a victory dance or sigh of relief when PHCN brings the light. We scramble to do everything we need power to do, charge and recharge all the rechargeable gadgets and say a silent prayer that the power lasts longer this time.

    Boss 2- The Generator

You have to admit, you have felt like a boss one time or the other when everyone is miserable about the epileptic power supply but you can’t be bothered because you decided to run the generator all day and night. But we all know how that hurts your pocket.

    Boss 3- The Inverter
This came in as a life saver and we admit it has its perks but we can’t help but wonder how safe living with about 6 lead-acid batteries really is. Not to mention the cost of buying one inverter battery versus a medium sized generator.

The New Boss in Town- MTN LUMOS MOBILE ELECTRICITY SERVICE

To further demonstrate its commitment to making the lives of subscribers a whole lot brighter through innovative technological solutions MTN Nigeria in partnership with Lumos, has launched an affordable alternative electricity solution called Mobile Electricity Service.

    What is MTN-Lumos Mobile Electricity?

The Mobile Electricity Service is an MTN SIM-enabled solar-based system which can help Nigerians enjoy accessible, noise-free and fume-free electricity for everyday use and conveniently pay with airtime from a MTN mobile phone. The mobile electricity device which comes with a 5 year warranty, can light up bulbs and power appliances like fans, televisions, cell phones and computers.

    How It Works

The MTN-Lumos solar solution uses a large solar panel linked to an indoor storage unit that allows customers to access significant amounts of power on demand day or night. The service is provided on a lease-to-own basis and the cost is spread over a five-year term, payable in affordable instalments via mobile phones with MTN SIMs. Customers receive a full product repair service during the lease period providing peace of mind and quality assurance.

Existing users include small businesses, residential users, small businesses, schools, healthcare facilities, community buildings among others.

  • AfriOne 2-in-1 Tablet

    AfriOne 2-in-1 Tablet

It’s a tablet! It’s a laptop! No wait, it’s all in one? There’s a new contender in the consumer device market in Nigeria that’s yet to grab attention but packs a lot of eye-bulging features sure to impress any user. Say hello to the AFRIONE 2-in-1.

“What makes this gadget the best buy for N Power?” Is the question you probably have on your mind since you’re considering a lot of options already and still trying to decide which to go for before stumbling on this review, but you might want to hold that thought and read on.

If you’re looking for an ideal tablet/laptop to be your N Power partner, you would do well to pick the made-in-Nigeria-for-Nigerians AfriOne 2-in-1 from AFRIONE that guarantees you better and faster after sale service. AFRIONE aims to not only sell products but to contribute positively to the growth of the Nigerian economy by empowering youth with skill sets.

Here’s what makes the AFRIONE 2-in-1 your ideal partner for N Power compared to other tablets available for the N Power program, like the Samsung Galaxy Tab E.

    1. Design
The AFRIONE 2-in-1 brings a refreshing change from the common, and increasingly boring, all-metal design of usual tablet pc’s as it comes with magnetic detachable keyboard attached that gives it a dual serving purpose as either laptop or tablet. Samsung Galaxy Tab E on the other hand comes without a keyboard accessory (i.e tablet only), maintaining the traditional design.

    2. Screen Size

The 10.1-inch HD IPS display on the AFRIONE 2-in-1 is incredibly sharp and offers crisp visuals, good clarity and rich colors. The 9.6-inch display on the Samsung Galaxy Tab E, fails to match the AfriOne in both size and display density. More screen means more area to work with and the Samsung Galaxy Tab E comes a few inches short in this department.

    3. Memory

Powered by a quad core processor with 2GB of RAM, the AfriOne 2-in-1 makes for a better entry than the Samsung Galaxy Tab E which comes with 1.5GB of RAM. Internal storage is also a win with the AfriOne 2-in-1 which has an in-built 32GB over the Samsung Galaxy E’s 8GB/16GB storage capacity.

    4. Battery Life

The AfriOne 2-in-1’s 6600mAh battery gives a battery life of 30 hours with typical use, which is 225% longer than a typical tablet’s battery life. Tablets generally have a battery life of 8 hours and the Samsung Galaxy E will only give 26 hours on active use.

    5. General Specification Comparison

Against full specifications of other brand models in the same category, the AfriOne 2-in-1 still comes out top of it’s class.

    6. Final verdict
In overall performance, the AfriOne 2-in-1 gives any other tablet in it’s category a run for the money, with no apparent performance lags in multitasking, running apps or navigating across the UI, bigger memory and storage, longer battery life and wider display angles as it’s premium features and detachable magnetic keyboard makes the AfriOne 2-in-1 by AFRIFONE the best value for money “mid-range” mobile device for N Power compared to other brand models. They also have collection centres in 36 states.

  • Why You Need Car Insurance

    Why You Need Car Insurance

People often say “prayer is the best insurance”. It is true the almighty God is here for all of us in our times of despair but we must also help ourselves a little bit. Once you start driving, you will realise that accidents do happen more frequently than expected. Road statistics indicate that the average driver will be involved in at least 3 or 4 accidents over the course of a lifetime, from the usual danfo brush to the motorway pile-up. So it’s reassuring to know that you will be covered financially if you’re involved in one, although it doesn’t just stop there. It is the legal responsibility of every motorist to get insured, not only for themselves or their property but also against their liability to other people.

The importance of having car insurance cannot be overemphasised. A damaged or wrecked car, these days, will cost quite a bit of money to repair or replace so it is important to get insured properly. Insurance protects your interests against circumstances and situations that would otherwise impose a significant financial burden.

Many people think that since they are good drivers, they have no need of car insurance. But there is another side to car insurance. What happens if your car is stolen and wrecked by a rough driver? What happens if the water from a torrential rain floods your engine or if your car is vandalised due to a popular uprising? An endless amount of circumstances can be played out to warrant the question, do I really need car insurance? Here’s what you need to know to realise that driving without having your car insured is reckless.

Why Do You Need a Car Insurance Cover?

Most people don’t give it much thought, but every car needs its insurance. Drivers without car insurance place themselves at both legal and financial risk. They also put other drivers and pedestrians at risk also. If an uninsured driver were to have an accident and as a result cause bodily harm or death to another person, or damage someone else’s property, they would be solely responsible for paying for damages, hospital bills, and even funeral expenses.

Where Does Your Car Insurance Really Count?

Car insurance is far more than a cover you need in the event of an accident. Most car insurance policies today come with a range of extra coverage and services that can make them valuable and helpful even if you never have an accident. Vehicle Inspection, car tracking device, and of course peace of mind……….

How Much Car Insurance Do You Really Need?

The best motor insurance policy provides the greatest amount of coverage at the lowest cost. Usually, insurance policies offer 2 levels of cover you can choose from – Third Party and Comprehensive. Third Party is the cheapest option but it does not protect your car whereas Comprehensive will protect your car even against an uninsured driver. If you care about protecting your investment in a car, then buy Comprehensive and protect yourself and your future from the unexpected.

    What if I’m not insured?

Driving without car insurance is ILLEGAL. Full Stop.
It will attract the penalties or fines from police or road safety officials. It will also cost you personally in the long run when you are faced with a claim against you. Car insurance is something you simply can’t afford to be without. Think about it this way: if you can’t afford the car insurance premiums, how will you afford the much, much higher cost of replacing or repairing your car out of pocket?

Car insurance is, therefore, something every car owner needs unless one can predict the future. There are far too many reckless drivers on the road. Taking the risk of driving without insurance is not only illegal but it can have a far-reaching impact on yours and the lives of others, should you take the gamble of not having insurance and lose.

  • The Gionee M6 Is a perfect gift for this Valentine

The Gionee M6 Is a perfect gift for this Valentine

Smartphones are everywhere, but one with features as alluring as the Gionee M6 will always stand the test of time. If you think the way to a man’s heart is food, trust me, the new Gionee M6 will change your mind.

Despite the ubiquitous nature of smartphones, the Gionee M6 is an easy pick for anyone who craves the best in a smartphone. Join me as I take you on my journey to the mysterious phone island where my Gionee masterpiece was discovered.

    I WANTED EVERYTHING!

Don’t judge me! It’s a human cross to want everything. I wanted a phone that would have a super strong battery life (hey! I don’t have light issues but incessant charging feels like harassment). I also wanted a phone that will douse my security fears and maybe help me take better Selfies. (My selfies were really horrible).

Furthermore, the RAM and memory space in my phone’s life needed an upgrade. For crying out loud do I have to delete to collect more? My phone was hanging and it had a lot of other issues more than enough to make someone break down.  That was it! I needed a new phone.

I WENT ON A SEARCHING SPREE!

Where in the world can I get a phone that can meet all my needs yet, not harm my wallet? I was determined not to settle for any phone but “the phone”. My breakthrough came when I saw the Gionee M6 commercial that claimed “the Gionee M6 could last for days on a single charge”. I thought it was just an ad but it is 4 weeks down the line, I haven’t had any regrets.

    IT’S FLAUNTING TIME!

With a 5000 Milli ampere battery, a 4GB Ram and a 64GB ROM, Finger print security, a 13MP rear camera, 8MP front camera, 2.5D Edge Display and a fully metallic body, it will be a sin not to flaunt my new Gionee M6. The phone is 4GLte so it makes the phoning experience an interesting one. Make this Valentine one to remember for your boo. • Diamond Bank Records 2 Million Subscribers On Mobile App And Diamond Y’ello Platforms

Diamond Bank has recorded two significant milestones in its digital banking drive with the signing up of a record two million subscribers each on its flagship mobile banking app –Diamond Mobile app, and its Diamond Y’ello account.

In a statement issued to the press by the Bank, Head, Retail Banking Businesses, Robert Giles, attributed the record milestones to the Bank’s digital innovation and quest to provide customers with convenient banking services.

In his words, “In January 2016, we recorded the one millionth Diamond Mobile app customer having launched the app a few years earlier. We are delighted that we were able to double that number in only one year. This is an affirmation of the trust our valued customers have in our products and services, and we pledge to continuously provide cutting edge services to them”.

Specifically designed for the teeming un(der)banked segment, the Diamond Y’ello account allows customers perform a wide range of banking transactions from their MTN phones without data or Wi-Fi connection. The account has helped the Bank achieve its customer-base growth target in three years, a goal that previously took the Bank ten years to achieve. This further underscores its focus on executing its digital transformation strategy by going beyond banking to meet its customers’ varying needs.

The Diamond Mobile app on the other hand allows Diamond Bank customers carry out a wide range of banking transactions from their Diamond Bank accounts including bills payment, flight ticket bookings, eSUSU (joint savings club), funds transfers, amongst others.

Diamond Bank Plc is Nigeria’s fastest growing retail bank, leveraging innovation and technology to enhance customer experiences and drive financial inclusion in what it terms Beyond Banking. Since incorporation in December 1990, Diamond Bank has challenged the market environment by introducing new products, innovative technology and setting new benchmarks through international standards. Today, Diamond Bank is best placed to respond to changing lifestyles and is leading the digital transformation in response to these societal shifts. Diamond Mobile app, for example, is Africa’s leading banking app and the first with the touch ID feature.

“Beyond growing the numbers of subscribers, we are focused on enhancing the customer experience on these platforms. So our valued customers should expect more exciting features as we go all out to provide them with convenient banking services”, concludes the statement.

  • 5 Reasons Why You Should Host Your Website Locally

    Garanntor 1

More than 98% of Web hosting companies in Nigeria host their customer’s websites on servers overseas or resell services of other foreign webhosting companies. They should not be mistaken for local Webhosting companies, as their servers are domiciled outside the country.

Local Web Hosting in a nutshell, means servers are resident locally in Nigeria and support is local.

Here are some reasons why you should consider hosting locally:

    1. SPEED
Local hosting enables your website run about 3 times faster than hosting overseas because of ultralow latency. It is vital for you to pinpoint your business’ needs before settling on a decision between hosting your website locally or overseas. Latency is better and faster when you host locally because local traffic is routed locally through the Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria

    2. PRICING

One of the drawbacks of hosting overseas in this current economic situation is due to the current devaluation of the Naira i.e. the ridiculous increase in exchange rate, you find out you are paying up to 4 times more now for the same service as opposed to 12 months ago. Hosting locally beats this issue and you pay less because local hosting is not influenced by FX

    3. DATA PRIVACY LAWS

Knowing where your information and client data resides is vital, and the data privacy laws of the country where your data is being hosted. To avoid the complexity of international Laws, once important information is being hosted outside the country the Laws of the land no longer apply; for example, if you host your data with an international service provider and they were to be involved in a case of national security and had to shut down because of a motion against them, you might lose access to your data because the laws of the hosting country will be applied against you

    4. BOOST LOCAL ECONOMY

It is said that Nigeria loses billions annually from hosting abroad. Hosting locally enables you grow the economy and also enables local hosting companies to export services and in turn generate revenue for the country.

    5. LOCAL SUPPORT

When hosting locally you will also notice a better quality of support when you need it the most. For example, time difference and language will not be an issue. Using a reputable local company to host your website means you have easier access to quality support. 24/7/365 telephone, email, and/or chat support and could resolve any issue for you on the spot, where possible. One phone call connects the small business owner to a customer care rep instead of an automated phone tree.

Finally, it is advisable that you host locally rather than overseas, if your target market is local. Hosting your website locally will ensure more uptime for your website, high speed loading time for your web pages, and faster browsing for your local visitors, along with greater access to expert support and optimum access for your target market, creating great user experience.

Perhaps right now, more than any other time would be good to reassess your website hosting. For reliable and affordable local hosting go to www.garanntor.ng

    SPECTRANET-GOLD-PLAN-lands-REV-New-Portrait--tearms and condition

The unlimited data plan, according to him, at a price of Eighteen Thousand Naira (N18,000) for a one month subscription provides users with unlimited upload and download without worries or fear of poor connection.

The Unlimited Gold plan is designed for heavy data users that live an active lifestyle and who want to stay connected for a whole month to accomplish all their business and personal tasks.

“As you are aware, we take our rollover policy very seriously.  All our existing customers who migrate to this plan will have their unused data warehoused in their account and this will be credited back to them should they choose to return to their existing capped plan” he said.

Aside the full speed unlimited Gold plan, we are also introducing a Unified Value Plan of 40GB for N12,500 only.   As part of our effort to ensure that more people have access to the affordable quality internet service of Spectranet.

Mr Venn, said “as a brand that has enjoyed tremendous success in the market, it is important we show our subscribers that we appreciate them and listen to their needs. It is this appreciation that has led to the introduction of a sincere unlimited data plan in the market, which is the first of its kind and in a class that is different as we are a brand that prides itself on integrity; our unlimited plan is truly unlimited in the real sense of the word. For now, the Unlimited Gold plan is open to only Lagos and Ibadan customers, while customers in other cities will be activated later.

This year, Spectranet 4G LTE brand has been recognised by various institutions on the strength of the character of brand in the area of service offering, particularly customer satisfaction and it is only proper that during this yuletide, we show appreciation to the subscribers for great trust they have placed in the brand.

He concluded that the Spectranet brand is on a journey of excellence in the market and thus the investment in technology is on-going to the extent that the network is tuned up consistently to meet the ever growing demand from subscribers for video streaming.  This resulted in Spectranet having the first Netflix server in West Africa.

In fact, The GDP in Nigeria shrank 2.24 percent year-on-year in the third quarter of 2016, following a 2.06 percent decline in the previous period and compared to market expectations of a 2.58 percent decline. Lower oil prices continued to hurt the oil sector which slumped for the fourth straight quarter while the non-oil sector was flat after shrinking in the previous two periods1.

Excerpts from Interview with Olumide Soyombo (Co-Founder, Bluechip Technologies)

Olumide Soyombo (Partner & Co-Founder, Bluechip Technologies)
Olumide Soyombo (Partner & Co-Founder, Bluechip Technologies)

Q1) Brief us on Bluechip and their relationship with SAP

My name is Olumide Soyombo, Co-Founder Bluechip Technologies.

Bluechip Technologies is a systems integrator specialized in Data Warehousing, Analytics and Business Intelligence Solutions. We have deployed several solutions for many of the banks and telcos, in terms of harnessing their data to help in delivering key decisions in their business around who their top customers are and how their business is performing, basically helping them measure things so they can manage them.

SAP as an OEM is a key player in this industry with several industry leading tools that enable us to bring our know-how to bear in delivering the solutions to our customers.

Q2) What is the new relationship between SAP and Bluechip?

Bluechip is a specialized value added partner for SAP focusing on the analytics and data management space. What we do working along side with SAP is help clients get data from different sources and help them make sense of this data to help them support decision making in their organization which is one of the reasons we are here today to talk to some customers about how they can use data in driving performance especially since the country is in a recession and companies now need to look at ways to drive down cost and improve revenue.

Q3) Can you give us a hint on what the customers are to expect in terms of this new relationship with SAP and how the program “reinventing your business” can affect their everyday business

What we are trying to tell customers today is, how do you bring in several analytic solutions that can help you disrupt the way you currently do things. I talked earlier about helping you measure selling metrics in your business so you manage them and how the businesses themselves can live and operate in a way that is data driven so that the decisions they make are data driven and they learn better ways to do things and make better decisions based on the data they have but weren’t harnessing the power of that data.

For us, we see ourselves bringing in data from different sources that these clients have and help them make intelligent decisions that they otherwise wouldn’t have made which could help them in driving down cost and could also even create new areas for them to introduce new products to the market intelligently that could also drive their revenue.

Q4) So, are you telling us now that this is something that both the private and public sectors can benefit from?

Definitely. As at today, even in the public sector, we need to come up with policies that are backed by solid data that has been collected, analyzed and patterns and trends have been seen, not just coming up with policies for policy sake. You find out that the power of analytics can shape policy making even in our Nation in the public sector.

Q5) Going forward now, 2017 should be a very interesting year and we are sure that the market should be looking forward to you deploying these solutions for their businesses.

    Indeed. *Laughs

    Spectranet

In what appears to be a subtle endorsement of Spectranet as the fastest and most innovative broadband service provider in the country, Dana Air has joined the growing list of reputable brands associating with Spectranet to enjoy its unique broadband service offering.

Disclosing the partnership with Dana Air recently, Chief Executive Officer of Spectranet, David Venn, said “its gladdening to note that the Spectranet brand is now a wonderful bride of great and aspiring brands within and outside Nigeria. Just right after we got selected to warehouse the only Netflix server in West Africa, here we are again with an indigenous world class airline company, with a great spirit of service, joining with us to provide excellent service to passengers of Dana Airline as they journey to Abuja, Lagos and Port Harcourt from the Murtala Mohammed Airport 2 terminal”.

The significance of this partnership, according to Mr Venn, is that it shows and confirmed the Spectranet brand as an innovative brand and a leader in its sector based on its relentless effort to provide the best Internet experience to consumers.

Speaking on the relationship with Spectranet 4G LTE, the Chief Executive Officer of Dana Air, Mr. Jacky Hathiramani  said “as an airline of repute and strong pedigree in the aviation sector, we took our time observing the broadband service providers and came to the conclusion that Spectranet is the brand we should associate with.

According to Mr Hathiramani, “Spectranet 4GLTE is the obvious choice for us as we searched for a partner and the awards speak glowingly of the strength of character of the Spectranet brand as it is probably the most awarded internet service provider in the country today. We, at Dana Air, appreciate the service offering of such a young and dynamic brand in the market”.

Mr Hathiramani added that “we do hope that the relationship will increase the wonderful experience of our passengers as they embark of their various journeys from the Murtala Mohammed Two Airport terminal.

He concluded that “Dana Air will always strive to offer world class aviation services to Nigerians by being the country’s first new world carrier committed to improving the well -being of customers in all product offerings, thus this partnership with Spectranet is another step in our quest to provide a World class quality service to our customers.”

In a related development, Spectranet opened its ultra-modern business Shop at Apo Shoprite Abuja with the goal of serving over fifteen private estates around Apo.

Head of Marketing, Spectranet, Mike Ogor said the new outlet is in keeping with the aspiration of Spectranet to be easily accessible in every location as the affordable broadband company that cares for the family and business.

Mike revealed that it is part of the strategic plan of Spectranet to maintain its leadership position in the market by having strong physical and virtual presence across every possible platform in order to meet the needs of customers in the country.

Since the commencement of the year 2016, different reputable institutions in Nigeria, through various consumer voting mechanisms, have adjudged Spectranet 4G LTE brand as the most innovative Internet Service Provider of the year, the most customer friendly Internet Service Provider of the year and recently, the Brand Writers Association of Nigeria, in the just concluded BJAN 2016 award also voted Spectranet 4GLTE as the best customer friendly Internet Service Provider of the year 2016.
